 22r Vacuum Lines
« Thread Started on Aug 4, 2006, 2:24pm »

I am having my 22r rebuilt. I bought a weber carb for it when I get it back together. My question is, can I eliminate alot of the clutter of lines on the intake and the truck still run? I understand that whatever vacuum lines I don' t hook back up to just plug them except the 2 for vacuum advance lines on the distributor. Is this true? Isn't most of that stuff for emissions control? Thanks

95% of that crap is worthless imho. you need the 2 going to the vacume advanced distributor and the line for the brake booster. other than that i don't know if you actually need any of them.

on my 84 22r with a 40 weber carb all the lines are caped off except the two lines for the distributor and the brake boost line. i think i only need one line for the distributor but there two lines going to it! just my $.02! later!

Let me know how it works out with the vacuum lines being removed. We just rebuilt my sons 1983 22r and have everything hooked up. It runs ok but it seems all that junk is old and not working as well. I would like to junk it all if it works good.
This is a daily driver. How would this affect emissions?

I rebuilt my 22r and added a weber32/36. The only vacuum lines I am running are one from the distributor for the vacuum advance, and one for the brake booster. Mine runs fine but it will never pass the new emissions test. It will pass the old school safety inspections(once I put a cat on it). I eliminated all emissions systems except for the PCV lines. It is a much cleaner engine compartment. LC engineering sells all the necessary caps for the intake manifold/EGR port etc...

In Texas after they are 25 years old they only have to pass the safety inspection. Just 1 more year for us.

I realize this is an old post, but just for future referance I will add...

on one of my trucks with the 22R engine, I have NO vaccum lines....other then to the brake booster....thats right, NO vaccum lines, not even to the distributor...but this truck is off-road only, and is always running at high RPMs, so I set the timing accordingly and blocked off all of the vacuum lines....just dont forget about crankcase ventalation....there needs to be 1 port letting air into the crankcase (valve cover) and 1 line sucking air out, so there is a constant flow through the crankcase...I have 1 line running into the air filter housing so the engine keeps a constant vaccum on that line, and the other 1 running to a small filter so it doesnt suck in too much dirt and water..
