Hi I'm new to this site but I have some questions. First off I should tell you what I drive....Its a 1991 Toyota pickup 4x4 with a 4 cylinder 22RE engine. My first question is I'm wanting to get some kind of exhaust put on it thats pretty loud if any one could give me some pointers.....what i had in mind was Y'ing the pipes off after the cat converter then going to the front of my rear tires and putting 2 twelve inch glass packs then dumps before my rear tires.
Second I was reading a post on the "black goo" on the throttle body I believe and about cleaning your fuel injectors.....I have a mechanics book on my truck but the dummy I am I'm not that great at reading it and i was wondering if someone could give me some help on how to get to that stuff lol....try to save me some money. Because now my truck misses quite a bit due apparently too my fuel injectors. Any help is appreciated! ;D

Well, can't help to much on the exhaust, but I have worked on the fuel injectors and seen the black goo. I have the V-6, so it's not totally the same. Just take off the EFI plenum. Make sure you keep track of all the hoses. The injectors should be right there. Unbolt the fuel rail and pull the injectors out to take them in. If they were bad, you'll notice a significant difference when they go back in. Mine came back with new o rings, but if yours don't, you'll need some. Put the fuel rails back on, and check for a fuel leak. Follow the mechanics book. It's really not that hard. The black goo will be behind your throttle body and down your EFI plenum. It's usually caked on there pretty good. Engine cleaner and time are all it takes.

Well I haven't started on the injectors yet but I did get the exhaust done today. Immediately after the cat converter is a 12 glass pack then out of that is a pipe to the side with an echo tip mounted infront of my rear tire. For a little 4 cylinder its really loud.....sounds like a diesel now

Sounds good, but probably a little to loud for me. When you get the injectors cleaned and balanced and clean the black goo, you'll be all set. It'll feel like a whole new truck. Good luck.

GRRRRRRRRR LOL, I Can't win!!!!!! I washed my truck yesterday afternoon and now there is a squealing in the front end. Its somewhere on the motor but its not a belt. I don't know if its one of the spindals that guides the belt or my uncle said it might be my water pump....lol when i finally get it sounding good with the exhaust now i got to fix a sqeak. lol

Well i got all the black goo out that I could and i took out my injectors and cleaned them myself.....the nearest place that would do it is about 150 miles away....right now i'm waiting to go pick up the rest of the o rings for the injectors...they should be in, in about an hour and a half. the only bad thing is, i need new tips for them and they are going to be special order....about a week or two to get them in and i can't wait that long...gotta have my truck tonight....i guess i'll make due with what i have! I'll let ya know how it runs afterwards though

Wow, thats some bad luck. Could be a lot worse though. The squeal could be a lot of things. Water could have gotten into a bearing. Hope it comes out ok.

Well i put the injectors back in and got it running...no fuel leaks...but to make sure i wanted to run it kinda hard to see if it would hold......DARN.......pulled in the driveway and looked under the hood and the very back injector was leaking....not much but a little.....so i thought maybe its just the way its in there....NOPE lol...then it was shooting gas out of it......so i took it all apart and ordered 4 brand new full injectors which will be here in 2 days hopefully it will work it was a set back of 120 a piece on the other hand now i have offroad fog lights new headlamps and a new sub-woofer and tweeters on it now....looking pretty spiffy. I'll let ya know how the new injectors work.

Sounds like your not having the best luck. The injector in the back too huh? It's always the part thats the hardest to get to. It seems like your doing a lot of work on it. I wish I had the time and money. Sound and light upgrades now. When I did that, I also upgraded the alternator. It was getting to be a strain to run lights and radio. What size sub did you get? How about an amp? I still need to get some tweeters. It'll really be a whole new truck when your done. ;D
