Hello, I just bought a 1989 Toyota 4x4 v6 for $3700. It has a custom lift which looks nice and it looks like it was kept in awesome shape. however this is my first truck and want to know what the best after market manual for it is? i saw on amazon.com that the chiltons one sucked but the haynes one seems fairly good. any other choices out there?
The one problem that i have noticed is that the center of the rear axle is 'wet' and seems to have a small leak. i'm not sure what part of the truck that is? the diferential?
anyways, any reply would be much apreciated. also, what are other good sites to check out?

I have the Haynes. Have used it extensively for sure, but it is not the greatest because it simpley covers to many years of trucks, with too little detail. If you can at all afford to but the Toyota factory manual. But for a tenth the price the haynes is'nt such a horrible alternative.

The Toyota Shop manuals are great.Haynes is fair but, the Toy manuals are a little over $100. You really get what you pay for with manuals.I have both.I would suggest a good all around Auto-technology book as well.(as your just starting out)One that explains in detail how each mechanical system functions.

Trust me, you can NEVER have too much information. BTW, welcome to ToyotaOffRoad!!! Sounds like your pinion seal is leaking. If it's just seeping, wait until you do gears & lockers ;D ;D ;D & fix it then. Later...

i had the chiltons and haynes. thats the best way to go because they complament each other. they leave stuff out and 1 or the other will usually have what your looking for.
