'92 4Runner V6 Auto
I've been noticing a rough idle lately while sitting say at a stop-light with the truck in gear, it goes away as soon as I shift from drive in to neutral. Anyone have any ideas? I'm not sure if I should be looking at the engine or the transmission on this one.

I think it sounds like the safety neutral switch. Im not quiet sure but i think this switch also has something to do with the idle of truck.

;D A rough idle & a "thunk" noise are totally different & will be diagnosed different. So, which or both is it?. I know my '88 V6 idles great & runs great. But, between 900-1100rpm, w/a load, say 4low or backing up, it makes the most godawful noise. Narrowed it down to the pistons/pins. Most likely the pins. I've driven several other 3L V6's that have the same noise. Let us know so we can help. Later...

It's more a rough idle, w/ a load, almost as if it were missing on a cylinder or 2 but it goes away as soon as I slip it into neutral, haven't had the time to see if it behaves the same in reverse or with the t-case in 4 or 4lo.

;D Yeah man!! Vacuum hoses can be a Toy nightmare! Have you checked for codes? Just b/c the CEL isn't on doesn't mean no codes. Later...
