Hi all
I've got a leak in the cab of my 86 4runner. Actually I have two leaks. One of the leaks comes from somewhere and drips down on to I think the steering column (on the inside of the truck) and then to the floor. The other drips down the body sheetmetal and runs right onto the computer in the passengers side kick panel.
The computer leak used to be awful. It turns out that a lot of water was coming in through a rust hole where one of the computer mount brackets goes. I fixed that an it lessened the problem but it is still there. For now I have the computer partially wrapped in rubber.
I siliconed the whole inside an outside of my windshield so I've pretty much ruled that out for now. If the temps ever get warm enough I plan to remove the passengers front quarter panel and see if there any more holes.
The funny thing is these leaks are not from driving. I can get wet spots after it rains and the truck hasn't been driven, just sitting.
Any one else ever have this problem? If so what was it.
Is there any chance that the the air ducts or exterior vent inlet are clogged and when it rains water some how builds up til it leaks. I have a factory shop manual but can't find anything on the ducts or vent inlets. If you think that's the problem what should I do.
I know it won't solve the problem but has anyone relocated there computer in the glovebox. Are the wire harnesses long enough to do it relatively easily.

i had a leak in my '88 around the area you mention. Turned out to be when it rained, the water would shed off of the windshield, run down into the front cowl and find a crack where the body panels met. i used some silicone to seal it up for a temp fix... never had time to pull it apart and fix it right.

I think (hope) my problem is the same as you mention. Now if it ever stops raining on a day off maybe I can try to fix it. Thanks

I had (cause my windshield is off) that problem. It would rain more inside than outside. It started off a drip drip. then got worse. So i took the trim panels off and siliconed it all around in the inside and outside. BIG MISTAKE, the silicon made it worse. When i took the windshield off all the metal trim around the front was rusted, and some spots had holes.
