I just read an article that the Maryland Police had legistlation to bad any non OEM equipment including, aftermarket lights, wheels, tires, bumpers, etc!!! How rediculous is that, luckily SEMA stepped in and blocked the proposal, thumbs up! Whats with those cops!?

That's why I live in MS, as far behind as it is, this might be the last free state in the country. I know lots of cops, and I don't know one who knows anything about lift laws.

Glad SEMA stepped in for guys.
As bad as CA is, I'm surprised that they haven't put something like that into effect.

What get's me it's the same a**hole hippocrits that own hummers and those all but useless oversized suv's that come up whith this B/S. When are they gonna leave us alone after all this used to be a free country. You know like freedom of choice well I WANT a 30 inch clearance or 3 in. it's my CHOICE

It's only your choice this days if they say it is.......
Besides those oversized SUV people are just jealous cuz they spend so much $$$ buying their mobel land yacht and still can't wheel it near as well as others at less then a 1/4 of the price they paid.[/ color]

It's funny. The reason they have some of the lift laws are for the other vehicles safety, like if you're rear-ended. But look at all of the tractor trailers out there. You would think that with all of big rigs out there they would concentrate more on making those trailers safer. You are more likely to be in an accident with one of them and be seriously injured. Imaging rear-ending a big rig. There was recently an SUV around here demolished - beyond all recognician - after being squished between 2 rigs.
I can see the laws regarding the mud flaps, and there are some about the headlights. Some of the stuff if you really look at it from a safety perspective, it makes sense. On the other hand, seems like there are bigger fish to fry than picking on the 2% of 4x4 out there that are "too big". I am in PA and have seen a few 4x4s pulled over before. the cops actually have tape measures to be sure you are compliant.
4xfred... do you do inspections? What are the laws here in PA?

;D Yes Sir! I'm a PA licensed safety & emission inspector. There are bumper & headlight laws but I seriously doubt anybody on this board would have a problem w/them. They are for guys w/12" of lift & 44's. The one law recently passed that could be a prob. in PA is that you are not allowed to have tires more than 2 sizes larger than stock. Example:my truck orig. had 225/75R15. LEGALLY, I can only run a 30"(approx) tire. Now, my personal opinion: As long as a vehicle is safe(lights, horn, brakes, susp., steering........) & is not overly obnoxious (exhaust waaay loud, tires sticking 6" out of the wells), I'll sticker it. BUT, if I'm ever ?'d about the sticker, "It wasn't that way when I inspected it" is all you'll hear me say. You're on your own. The laws are changing & not in our favor. Not to get political, but, if people want to do something, get in touch w/your local rep. or senator & let them know how you feel. I'm lucky, one of our good customers is a PA senator who's commisioner of the Fish & Game board. Later...
