Got a 90 DLX extended cab With an auto (V6)...real dog on the highway. Looking to get a late 90's Tacoma extended cab to replace it. My question is how does the 4 cyl with the 5speed do?

You may not want a response from a girl but I had a 99 4 banger taco for three years and loved it. Didn't have alot of take off power, but other than that it was fine. Didn't pull a lot of things, but did pull a large trailer when I moved and it did great. I have a 03' V6 now and can tell a huge difference between the two, but the 4 banger did great. Just my opinion.

Its like a jeep but its got a cargo bed.I use it for personal transportation and I love the short wheel base.A friend is a dealer toyota mechanic says they are tough engines. It has four more valves than a chevy or ford v6.

i have a 96 taco 4 banger 5 speed. I love the truck, in my opinion it has plenty of power. It will light 31s right up.

I'm with Yotaman16, I got a 96 with a 4 banger also but I put 32 on it and it will still roll. The K&N and flowmaster helps too, though.

I got a '98 TAco Pre-Runner 4-Cyl, and it gives me all the power I need. Mine is an auto though, not a manual. It's still a pretty powerful truck if you compare it with other 4-Cyls.

I got a 97 Tacoma with the 2.7 L four banger, it does good but bogs up hills. Mainly because it is a automatic. I would suggest a five speed because I heard you see a major power difference with the manual transmission

I have a 02 Tacoma 2.7 5spd it does great it was a little sluggish on hills with 35's on it but when I went back to 33's it was great. The 2.7L is 160HP just like the old V6 in the pre tacoma trucks but with the automatic you are losing 15-20 hp. And being a 90 model with some mileage on it you could be losing a little more hp due normal wear of the engine.

first off there is two different 4bangers. i think the 2.4 and 2.7. the 2.7 has some good power if you want a truck to get you from point a to b with some pulling every once in a while. also remember gearing is the key. I had the 22re with 33's and did great because i had 4.88's.

Like redtoy said there are the two I have the 2.7 with air box mod and k&n filter I have alot of fun with it . I'm rolling superswamper ssr's 31 10.5 r15 lov'em in the snow and rain. it has the power I need for atleast while I'm still paying for it or the warranty runs out. Also with the 5spd manual you will loose in the end but you can take the automatic six bangers off the line.
