I know after I throw larger tires on my '03 Taco the speedometer will be off. Is there any way to fix this? I talked to a mechanic and he wasn't too sure. Is this something I need to take to a Toyota dealership or am I just going to have to get use to the incorrect speedometer?

After going from stock to 33's my speedo is off about 5 MPH doing 60. I've seen a small adjuster box that goes between the tranny and speedo cable before in a catalog but can't seem to find it now.

I have been looking for something similar, i went from 225's (28inch) to 31 inch tires and when I drove next to my buddy's Taco on the interstate my speedo read 75 and his read 82!! I heard your local discount tire has something but i havent lookin into it.

Thanks for the info so far. I just got off the phone with my local Toyota dealership and they said that there is no way that they can recalibrate the speedometer. I'll be making a call to my local tire dealer shortly. Not being able to recalibrate the speedometer doesn't make sense to me at the moment. I mean, what about the people that REALLY jack up their trucks? Larger tires like 35's and up must make a really big speedometer difference?

Oh yeah...I've also read that upgrading to a larger tire will affect my ABS. Is this true?

I can't believe how much they do. My speedo was always a little off, around 5mph. Now it is as much as 9 or even 10mph. I never know how fast I'm going. I just try to keep up with everyone on the freeway. Sometimes a little faster There has to be a way to fix this. There must be. I remember talking to some guy who had 38s and he said he had his speedo recalibratied. By who and how much I don't know.

Guys, I have been doing some more asking around. I checked out a Summit Racing catalog and they sell 2 different speedometer recalibrators. Superlift and Jet are 2 companies that make the product. However, in the book it only says that these are for '92-'01 trucks! Oh yeah, and they cost between $150 and $170! With this in mind I was thinking about possibly getting a 325/60 R15 (approx 31x12.5) BFG all terrains. This tire would just about eliminate the speedometer problem.
How would a 2-3 inch lifted '03 Taco look with a 31x12.5' tire look on a 15x8 wheel?
I really need some advice here! Thanks!

You wouldn't need the lift....I'm running 31x10.5xR15's on my toy truck right now and i have NO rubbing....the only thing that you would worry about is turning it and rubbing the frame with your tire.....for that i believe you can just correct it with backspacing, or 12.50's might fit w/o rub also, i doubt it, but haven't tried myself, as for the recalibrating, have you looked at JC Whitney, if i remember right they sell a recalibrater for under 100 bucks. Also the lift won't really help with your flex since you have IFS, unless you can find another good reason to lift the truck, i wouldn't. Right now i'm saving up for the 6" fabtech so i can run 33's w/o rub. :-D

I am new to all of this...what does IFS mean? Is it "independent front suspension"?
