Howdy, I have a 98 regular cab 4x4. I'm 17 so me and my friends are always cruising around and practically every day the porblem arised that i can only fit 3 people in my truck (barely). I live in Vermont where there are no rules about passengers in the bed of a light truck. So i'm thinking that I want to get a bench seat (like the one up front in the cab) and bolt it into the bed. I have a cap that I can put on as well. I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this or if it's possible. Also, can i bolt into the bed or do i need to do it into the frame? Thanks a lot,
Benny

if i were you i would go to a junk yard and get a bench seat out of an old minivan (you know the seat with the seatbelts built into the bench) that way you dont have to worry about mouting seatbelts. as far as mouting the bench youll have to take some measurements to see if the bench will even fit

Hey Benny I'm not trying to drop a bomb on ya with this but it hit a nerve with me given the recent events in our area. Just try to understand where I'm coming from... This past week there have been a total of 10 teenagers killed in accidents in our state (mostly local) all from two car wrecks. One was with 7 kids piled in a car going down the road at 80 and hit a tree after losing control. Killed everyone and most of them were ejected from the vehicle. Cause for the deaths were speed and too many occupants in the vehicle not using proper restraints. I know I have ridden in the back of trucks all the time growing up on a farm. Would have been nice to have a bucket seat to sit on rather than the bedside. Just know that until you provide a proper roll cage and safety restraints, these seats will always be a danger to your friends in the back. If you roll or get hit from the side, there is a chance they could be critically or fatally injured when ejected from the vehicle. They build the cab of the truck for an impact. The bed of the truck doesn't have this type of engineering. Even with seatbelts in the bench seat and a cap on the truck, it isn't safe and puts your friends in danger. With all that said, I understand your desire to do this and I have seen people do it before. I just want to make sure you are aware of the risks involved. You can decide if it is worth it or not.

There's definatly some validity to your saying. After hearing what you said I think that if I was to put seating in the back i would first install a roll bar, like the one on the late 80's 4runners with removable caps. I doubt anything would happen cause I'm a safe and slow driver, but if it did it would SUCK, so its probably not worth it. Thanks for the wise words

Take it for what it's worth, but I have been in 3 accidents. Not 1 of them was my fault. Doesn't matter if you are a safe and slow driver, it's not necessarily you that you have to worry about. It's the a$$hole that runs the stop sign and T-Bones you.
But, hey... the seats sound like fun if your are cruising the ocean strips!
