Most of the time SR5 equipped trucks have the SR5 emblem on them. The SR5 package is just an upgrade from the standard truck. If the emblem has been removed, it would also be listed on the vehicles history by researching the VIN through carfax or something.
But basically if it doesn't have the SR5 badge somewhere on the truck, then it probably isn't a SR5.

Yup, they do usually say SR5 on them, but there are a few other things that might help. I know on the older models, the SR5 package would get you a tach and bucket seats as opposed to the 60/40 bench, or full bench. I don't know for sure if this is still true.
Now that I think about it, I think that the '97 was the first year in the Tacomas to offer bucket seats on non-SR5 Tacos.
But, first and foremost, check for the emblem.

I know on the '96's they had chrome mirrors if they are SR5 along with the bucket seats.

If it is an extra cab SR5 will be written under small side back windows.

sr5 is just a trim package. it comes with more crome and sometimes better seats or air con. run the vin# and it will let you know or it should have it on the truck somewhere. red
