Hey whats up. I was wondering if yall could help me get started in offroading. I'm about to turn sixteen and just bought a 2002 double cab sr5 trd tacoma. I want to get it lifted to fit at least 33's if not 35's but I'm so new at this I dont even know what the diff. is between a suspension lift and a body lift . I'm goin to get the trd supercharger and 7th injection kit so hp isnt a problem. If any of u guys have some ideas for a beginner lift kit let me know. peace.

glad to see that your intrested in wheelin and you def have a capable rig out of the box but to answer your lift Q's a body lift or b/l raises the body up from the frame a suspension lift is achieved dif ways for the front they use spacers or longer coil over for IFS for the rear and solid front axels there are a few dif ways to get lift longer shakles longer or re arched leaf springs blocks add a leaf aal's but to answer the Q on what tire you can fit my suggestion is a cornfed suspension 3'' lift w/dif drop spacer it sells for $290.00 and is IMHO the best lift for tacos you will fit the 33's as for the 35's there will be some cutting and trimming so I would go w/the 33's till you get used to wheeling and then see what you need from your rig and then make changes hope this helps and welcome to the world of wheelin

Thanks Hoodlum. If I order the 3" cornfed lift where should I take that to get it installed or is it possible to do it myself?

you can install it yourself it takes a few hours but you will have to rent a spring compressor from your local parts store other than that just spray all the nuts and bolts w/lube let'em soak yes it is easier w/air tools but hand tools will get'er done I believe cornfed has a help page if not just e-mail them they will be happy to answer Q's if you decide not to do it yourself check with local shops custom speed hell I know a guy that got a body shop to install his just check around and get prices good luck

they are a little pricey but I run super swamper ssr's 6 ply if you rotate them reg you can get 40,000+ out of them IMO def one of the best multi-purpose tires but worth every penny check out galloways1234 they had the best price by like $10 a tire cheaper than anyone else I looked at prices for 3+months before I bought them and had them 3days before they told me I would have them they are located in New London N.C. AWESOME PEOPLE fast and friendly

How come i've seen trucks with a 3 inch suspension lift and a 3 in body lift that can fit like 37" tires. If i got a body and suspension lift could I fit bigger tires. cuz most of my friends have at least 35's and they say i will need at least 35's to keep up with them.
One more thing. for the super swamper radial ssr's whats the diff. between 6 ply and 10 ply because i have 16" wheels and none of the 6 ply tires fit on 16" wheels

Name: Bryce B - Vancouver, British Columbia Canada
Year/Model: 1991 Toyota Truck
Body Lift: 3 Inches Suspension Lift: 4 Inches
Tires: 37 x 12.5
Description: Custom Solid axle swap, 5.29s f/r, rear E-Locker, 37x12.5x15 SSRs, Eagle 059s, Bushwacker flares, Rancho 44044s. Future Mods - ARB bumper with Warn winch, Downey headers, custom sliders.
If i bought a 3 inch body lift along with the cornfed sus. lift could I fit tires as big as 37's. and what other mods would I have to make.I also dont know what width tires to get I have the 16 optional alloy wheels for the newer tacomas but I cant find what width they are or what width tire would fit them

yes you could fit 37's with alot of fender cutting as far as tire width I don't use anything wider than 11.5 but that's me and the di between 6 ply and the 10 well it's sidewall is alot thicker

Since you are going to use your truck off-road, do not try and fit 35's with 3" of lift and definately don't try and fit 37's with 6" of lift. Six inches and 35's is what I have and I rub off-road, but it doesn't bother me. If you want to completely clear them you will need 8-9" of lift. Also if you had enough lift for 37's I wouldn't recommend running them because you will greatly increase the chance of breaking stuff. I also run the SSR's, but I know a lot of people who run BFG M/T and they are a great tire.

You know....bigger isn't always better...I have a TRD tacoma with 31 inch bfg All Terrains. My friends also run big tires with big trucks and I still run circles around them. Sure I can't pull them out because my truck doesn't have the muscle....but i've never been pulled out, i've always gotten out on my own. If you do want it for function and not for looks....i would recommend not exceeding what your toyota can handle. Sure you might be okay on HP....but what about all your steering components?? I doubt toyota engineers over engineered enough for 37's......if i'm correct even 35's are pushing it.

i run 31" ssrs and can go just about any where i want, i even followed jeeps in hot springs that were locked and ran at least a 35 , you just have to pic your lines good and know your limits.
