I didn't do the deck plate mod, but I did cut big holes in my airbox on my '88. I wouldn't say that it added any noticable hp, but did change the sound of the engine.
I want to do this to my '97 taco, just haven't gotten to it yet.

I believe if you go to the frequently asked questions forum, there is a forum about the deckplate mod....i think it's called Airbox Mod.....check that out for more info on what people have done....

I have done the deckplate mod to my '96 Taco. It has proven results (dyno) and you can close it to be waterproof again. Check this out for a good write up. www.wattora.com/Mods/deckplate/

I have the 4" and want to drop to a 3" because I have the 4cyl and the 4" is too much but on the v-6 go with the 4
