that occurs when coming to a complete stop, if i let of the brakes just before stopping i can avoid this clunking, however when accelerating the clunk happens. Regardless, either way the clunk always happens. This is an automatic tranny. I think its coming from the rear leaf springs. i put a couple door shims in between the very bottom leaf spring and the loud clunking dissapeared. Furthermore, the shims fall out easily and will not suffice. I was hoping someone else has the same symptoms, and have you found a better solution than to shim the leaf springs? I dont know what the real purpose of the shorter/beefier/lower one is but it seems like theres a surefire solution to this loud and annoying clunking sound. cheers

Yeah that doesn't sound right. Have you tried checking to make sure the u-bolts holding the leaf springs are tight? Sounds like something is moving that shouldn't be. Check your drive shaft for play in teh u-joints and diff to make sure that isn't part of it. Do you have any suspension mods like an added leaf? I've heard stories of those leafs moving under load and hitting shocks. But that would be pretty noticable. One thing you might try is getting a friend to hop in the drivers seat hold on the brake and press on the gas pedal slowly applying force to the driveline and axle. You can look under the truck while he is doing this and see what exactly is moving causing the noise. Just make sure he doesn't let off the brake. Good Luck

Do you actually hear something or can you feel it or is a combination of the two? Sounds like axle wrap...

Yeah it does sound like axle wrap. Try looking at those things I mentioned above. With the stock setup you shouldn't be getting axle wrap unless something is loose or not set up right.
