My steering rack is loose, it causes a shimmy at 70MPH. I replaced the rubber mount with a toyota part but it didn't help. Who makes poly bushings, mounts for Tacomas?

if the rack is tight now it's poss you may have different problem, like tires out of balance will cause a high speed vibe.

I have balanced the tires. It's loose I can move it side to side by hand. I found some poly bushings at www.suspension.com for $14

I can't say for sure it turns out I have a bigger problem. The gear assy is shot and leaking fluid from the top of the rack.

DAMN. I don't have that much of a problem, just some slack. Hope you get it fixed soon. My newest problem to my truck is the transmision is acting up or something as it sounds like its not wanting to change gears as mine is an automatic.

Have you been playing in deep water or mud?

if you replaced the bushings w/new ones and it still moves, putting poly bushings wont help!

I was only able to replace the bushing on the right side because the only way to get the bushing on the left that goes through the rack is to buy a new rack from Toyota. One of the advisor's at work used to work as a tech for Toyota and he said that this is a common problem especially for lifted trucks with larger than stock tires and that the solution is poly bushings on all three mounting points.

I just put the poly bushings on today. No shimmy or vibration, it feels very soild now. It was not that hard to do either, only took about half an hour.

I didn't even try to do an alignment before fixing it. If the steering components are loose there is no way you an accurate alignment
