alright here we go. as a couple of you already know that I have a blown oil-ring in my Taco. This prevented me from making the run with some folks in N.H. at Thanksgiving time. which really pissed me off I'm burning a qt every 60 to 100 miles except for the highway it's not that bad. It was the purpose for making the trip to new england to start with BUT I did end up with another kick ass tattoo by one of my oldest friends Kevin Darling of Renaissance Tattoo Woonsocket RI. Anyhow I've decided to beef up the 2.7 since I have to take it all apart. This is what myself and a couple of the techs here at work have decided to bore 30 over and go for 10:1 on the pistons port & polish head to 2mm o s valves getting the stage 2 cam with adj. gear upgraded injectors big bore intake and T/B and by next summer I should have the supercharger & fifth injector kit. I know a lot of you will say do a v-8 swap but I already have one of those and I've never taken a motor apart and not done something to it.That just doesn't make sense to me. I'm dealing with LCE on this build since they are pretty much the only ones that have almost every thing I need. My friend Neil will be doing the porting and BMS will be doing the rest of my machine work. Myself & Matt will do the tear down. Myself, Tom and Neil will do the final assy. Tom will do the final adjustments and tweaking. I was only gonna build up the lower end but after going back and forth with the guys over at custom tacos I'm convinced I'd be wasting my time and $ if I didn't do the supercharger I would have ended up with too much top end and not much going in the lower end so to balance it out I decided to add the SC and upgrade intake and TB but not all at once unfortunatly.

Are you going to swap this head out when the SC is added? Just wonderin..10:1 is a little high for the boost from an SC. Unless you run mega-octane with super retarded timing.... Is the cam a SC profile too?
As an alternative have you considered a stroker crank? I actually have not seen one for this motor, but anythings possible in a machine shop....

I'm building LCE stage 2 set up the SC is a add on for later if I decide I want it. Nobody makes a crank for the tacos. The stock head will be just fine. If Iwas doing the stage 3 then I would have to replace the head. The cam will perform even better with the SC. This is where a lot of people cheat themselves out of performance they'll install a SC w/o doing anything to the engine. With what I'm doing with the exception of the SC will improve the top end adding the SC will bring back the lower end that I gave up building up the top. I am kicking around just doing the 8.3:1 for the pistons. None of this is in stone until I get the engine apart and see what's going on internaly.

Just wondering. That seemed like a real high comp. ratio for pump gas with boost..... I wasn't sure if you planned on swapping heads with the charger install to lower the compression. Some SC cams just don't work without the boost. Just like SC's don't work without the correct cam.... Which SC are you looking at?
Must be nice to have willing, experienced mechanics at your beck and call.....

Stew this is why I'm considering the 8.3:1 pistons they will handle the boost. The problem with replacing the head is they start at over $1300 and go as high as $3500. This is my debate cause the SC is $3k as well so I'm leaning towards just boring 30 over and do the stage 2 kit at 10:1 and P&P the head & adj cam set. Cause in reality I can take the 3k I was gonna spend on a SC and finish the re-build of the '85 Honestly this part of my taco build wasn't supposed to even get started until this time next year but do to the fact that I have to tear her down now is making me rush into it a little more than I care for. I prefer to have more than enough time to go over the #'s first before doing anything but it's crunch time and I need my rig back to %100 I'm missing some great wheeling trips and not to mention I can't take the smoke anymore. Yeah it is very nice having these guys handy in fact I was just gonna re-build stock but they said they wouldn't help (let me use their space & the tools I don't have) unless I beefed it up. Which is just fine by me it's costing me more but I'll have more fun this way ;D

i went to auto class in high school and my teacher was an intelligent man he once told me the myth about 30 over using mathematics he calculated how much cubic inches it made 5 on a 350 and then calculated how much horse the 5 cubes made it was a like 5 horse so is it really worth it to go 30 over ? that is up to you. its funny cause the same teacher told me there's no replacement for displacement

boring out to.30 over isn't done for HP gain. I'm not building for HP altough I will gain some. I am building up the low end torque to mid-range.When boring or shaving heads, blocks what you gain depends on how you set it up with matching pistons, valves, crank, injectors, throttle body ect ect This is where you figure out what to gain and where.

"its funny cause the same teacher told me there's no replacement for displacement "
Did this guy teach math, shop or Phys-Ed?
On the " .30 over" thing, there seems to a be alot more pride in people claiming more ci's than just saying they had their motor rebuilt..... then when they brag about a .60 over motor, you know they are just taking a whore to church!
