I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what could be wrong...awhile ago I noticed that my truck wouldn't run when I first started it. It starts right up, but it chugs...almost like it is running out of gas... until it comes to temp. I thought maybe a cold start injector, but I guess that it doesn't have one of those. Last week I noticed that it was throwing quite a bit of really sweet smelling white smoke from the exhaust. There doesn't appear to be any oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil. I did just change the radiator because it had a leak and checked all the fluids, everything seemed o.k. Today on the way home it wouldn't climb the hill in the road. I pulled over and let it come to temp so the smoke would stop and then it ran fine. Also there has been a rattle that I can't put a finger on for quite awhile. It sounds like a heat shield, but maybe it's coming from an exhaust manifold or head. Any one have this problem before or have any ideas what it might be? The truck has 206K. Thanks

If your burning oil you have a blown oil ring(piston) I have this same prob. and as far as not being able to get up the hill it seems to me that you have a clogged cat.

The truck's not burning any oil. We just checked all the plugs and they look good. I also forgot to mention that about 3 weeks ago we changed the timing belt and water pump. If we put the belt back on one notch off would the truck even start, or maybe that's why it is running like crap? Only when it's cold though.

Well, that last plug I pulled appeared to be wet. It wasn't oil but maybe water. After starting the truck up and inspecting the smoke, I noticed that cat is smoking alot. Probably filled up with water. Blown head gasket is probably the problem then, do you agree?

Blown head gasket. It's leaking coolant into cylinder(s) hence the sweet smelling exhaust and wet spark plug. Do a compression test to find out which cyl. are leaking.
