I have an 02 prerunner and ive wondered about putting 4wd in it. Im sure its been done but whats the drive ability and would it be better to go with ifs. My wife drives the truck daily and she has talked about getting a trail rig. The reason I want to use this truck is its paid off and the double cab is great for the kids. I kick my self every day for not getting the 4wd

I guess my question is, is it easier to do the ifs? Is it a direct bolt in? The truck is a daily driver so I need to make it a reliable and good riding vehicle.

This depends on your own ability if you are good with tools and such then YES it is just as easy to stay with the IFS not to mention the ride quality alone is worth keeping it. A lot of the stuff is direct bolt in. A SAS is more for the rock crawling type of wheeler but for general trail rig & DD IFS will get it done this way you can spend your $ on things like T-case drive shafts, armour, frnt locker(the rear I believe is already equipped in your truck) gears to run larger tires. I go everywhere the SAS rigs go except for the red trails which are for the buggies(I don't have any armour at all on my rig otherwise I would follow)

I have an 02 prerunner and ive wondered about putting 4wd in it. So I'm guessing it's 2WD. ;D It would be easier and cheaper to buy a used 4WD truck, unless you have a lot of time and $$ or know what you're doing and can do the work yourself
