Greetings:
I may need to add some information about this but could someone help me -- How do I find what size my present rear/end ring and pinion gears are on my '05 Tacoma?
I'm thinking I might like to change size. My truck has the towing package on it but I really don't tow anything at the present time. The most I might tow in the future might be a small trailor with a mower on it; but I'm not sure where to look to see what size it is now.
thanks in advance, appreciate your help.

Gas MPG: Not worth a DAMN
Yesterday I drove exactly 100 miles (I only have 6500) on this new '05 4x2 Prerunner V6 w/ ACC Cab.
100 miles and and refilled at exactly 100 miles: It took 7.316 gallons which figures out to be a whopping:
13.668 MPG -- the sticker 'estimated' 18 for City driving, get this, this was 95% on an interstate road on cruse control at about 73mph. There has to be something wrong somewhere. I'll check it again and post in this same line of posting; but would like to hear from others too. So, I'm thinking of changing out to a higher rearend.
The OG on this: TRD off-Road Package #2 which isn't anything fancy.
In the fine print of the sticker, it says: 12 to 29 highway, well the 29 has to be going DOWN HILL!!!
13.668mpg really sucks, doesn't it?!!!

Which begs the question:
Why do we even have a government involved with this stuff when they can legally rob ya and to have the end result of milage so far off from the Sticker (22mpg) when it got 13.668 - that's not even close!
Oh yeah, the road was pratically - no, not even pratically, .... it was flat -- no hills to climb, just flat and the majority of it was on cruse-control.
In my next life, I'm test driving from the gas station out 11 miles and then back to the gas station w/ another fill up.

If you really want to check mileage you need to go to the same pump at the same station and let the pump stop itself and not top it off both times. It is unbelievable how different the numbers can be when you fill up at different stations. I am not saying it is going to bring you up to 29 mpg but it might make a bigger difference than you think.

Toyota has been caught exagerating MPGs numerous times. Just a month or so ago for their hi-breds.

As for your R&Pn size, are you talking the ring gear diameter or the ratio ? Either way, get the axle code of the firewall VIN plate and look it up in the table.

Well, I talked with the nice lady at Toyota world today and she informed me in no uncertain terms that if I changed those gears in that pumkin she would zap me with a spell like you wouldn't believe!!
I found out they make only one - and it's in da truck, it's a 3.727 ratio.
Man I can't wait to check that milage again.

At what mileage would you all consider engine broke in? Once achieved would or did gas milage get better, then?
Milage that engine was broke-in:
Miles on truck & MPG now:
V6 or V8:
Auto/Stick:
Does putting on a KN air-filter mess w/ warranty?
What Grade of gas were you told to burn? (what are new buyers told now?)
How many Gallons does your Tacoma hold?
