i recently got a 4runner in october and in doing alot of research into the car before purchasing it I found out on those 4runner models where you have to have the window completely down before the tailgate will open that if that motor goes out or in your case the window is not tracking properly you will either need to remove the carpeting panel to get to the window's drive system (could be something is jamming your guide track or take it to the dealer and have them look at it. But, word on the street is if that motor goes out, it will run you some serious cabbage to get a replacement. may want to look into a salvaged motor if it comes down to that. Peace

I have a '95 4runner. I believe that the window and the mechanical parts that bring it up and down are one unit. To replace could cost about $1700. But If the glass "happened" to be broken, your insurance company should have to replace it, meaning the entire unit. I had my rear window smashed and my insurance company replaced it, and they had to replace the entire unti. Might want to check that out and see if they replace the window for mechanical reasons also.

im not sure if its the same on youre runner as it is on my 87, but the licence plate mount is right in the middle of the tailgate, and when i bought the runner it had a licence plate holder that said "I'd rather be camping" not that i dont like camping but i dont really want that thing. anyways, i took it off and just screwed the bolt holding the licence plate all the way in. long story short, i screwed it too far in and ended up bending the rod that holds the window on and un seating the window from its holder. all you have to do if that happened is take out the window, reseat it on the track, and using caulking compound secure it back into the track and have an assistant make sure the window is level as you roll it up. then just leave it rolled up for like 2 days or long enough to let the compund set up if this is still an issue i'll try to get some pics

I had the same problem with my 4 runner, when I hit the window down switch all that would happen would be click click click, I had to take the carpeting and metal plate off the tailgate(from inside of truck) and I found that the whole window transmision was rusted together Had to cut arms connecting to window off with sawsaw to get window tranny out then pull the window down by hand (carfully) spray the metal clips that are attched to the window with penatrating oil and slide them off, called around for hours looking for a used one with no avail, ended up buying a new window trans, new rubber and clips for window at the dealer, it cost me 185 with tax. took about two hours get parts before you start unlike me also check the motor gear
