Look at MX contributing!!!!!!!! J/K I have always wondered If I was the only ex MXer who used the old spray the plastic trick on thier 4x4. The only prob I have with it is that when I spray my rims with it, it seems to collect more brake dust. If your doing it for one isolated day of mudding I would definately recommend it. I spray down the bull bar and fenderwells. Makes cleanup a breeze and also keeps the accumulated weight down during day long mudding. I might give the tape a try, I'm always worried about my ECU and an amp I've mounted under the seat. Thanks for the tip!!

wish i wouldve sprayed my rims last time i went out...got in pretty deep and scratched the shit out of them (theyre stock, though, so i dont care). also, the duct tape on the door wouldve been helpful...i had to bissel the carpets when i got back. later, -Andrew

This isn't exactly prep, but are there any good products out there that help with cleaning the underbody after a long weekend of mud. Pressure washing isnt getting it, and neither is elbow grease. let me know

get a garden sprayer & use it to spray diesel fuel on your frame rails and rear ends you can also spray tranny & oil pan just be carefull not to do it around the exhaust when its hot do it when its cool and it will have evaporated some by the time you air down & check everything out hope this helps

Diesel fuel? Where did you plan on re-collecting it after spraying it on. It's now haz waste.
Sounds like you've gotten a bunch of clay stuck in your undercarriage. That is sticky stuff. Clay takes a long time to spray off and any pretreatment you can do may help reduce it's stickiness. You may wish to let it dry a bit and scrape it off. But don't leave it on too long as it has trapped water there that will work on any exposed metal and start the rusting process.
At one race I went to I decided to go through the big mud hole a couple of times that day. Later 4 carwashes later and a just a little tiny mud left on the undercarriage the dealer asked me if I like going off road. Duh!

this isnt prep , but if you dont feel like laying under your truck with a water hose , put a garden sprinkler under it for a while, then move the truck and spray all the mud off your drive way.

I like the sprinkler idea hopefully it won't cause too many problems. (i.e. rust)
Also when you play hard expect to clean hard also. Or expect to gain a couple pounds on your truck every time you go out and have a blast.
Buy yourself a pressure washer and a lift goggles a speedo, and go to town. Use the mud for the local mud wrestling talent (hopefully they are girls).

I second Jimmy's comment. If anyone finds something you can spray on that will prevent major body damage, please let us know

We don't have much clay in south FL but when I'm full of mud I wait for it to dry then pick the chunks off the under carriage and use my fingers to get it out from atop the skid plates its a long painstakin process but I found it to work the best. I have a do it your slef car wash near where I live and after 15 bucks in quarters and a ticket from the cops I can get the body clean. My truck is new and my car is 37 years old with no clear coat left so I take my time on the paint making sure all dried trace mud is off and i can see my front teeth in it. I'll have to try that silicone spray idea next time i go out.
A couple other tips if your trucks is new or you care about the interior invest in some rubber floor mats and some thick seat covers south floida mud is a bit*h to get out of grey interior. Bring towels and some extra clothes as well if you get stuck and have to get out and try pushing and pullin and all the like your gonna get nasty and fling mud all over your cab. the truck is so new to me that I might just be over scared about ruining the inside sorry if i sound like a bit*h

i have found the best way to get the mud off is not to go in it anyway my buddy is into mud and a few things to do is one own a pressure washer. dont go down to the u wash place they get pissed and then they have to clean your mess and gives wheelers a bad name. mud is easier to get off when its wet. do the sprinkler thing let it go for an hour or so. so the mud is really wet. the pressure wash the truck. some tips. WD 40 the WHOLE truck to it in the rims teh fenders the bed everything. turn your mirrors in so they dont get broken, make sure u have full breathers for all the axles tranny and t case. water proof the ecu, have full fender wells and inner fenders so the motor stays clean. use di-electric grease on all connectors to keep water out. have tow strap already connected so u dont have to get to get to an attachment point. that all i can think of now
