Playing around with cooling options on a 20R I am working on I found that the Supra cooling fan will bolt right on to the 20R water pump, the fan has 9 big blades on it and the Toy Part number is (16361-42020) If your going to be pulling the part from a junk yard it can be found on 86-92 Supras in a hot areas, (ie) US all Supras, (Canada) some supras. Also Cressida's with the 7M engine.

another option is an ford tarus electric fan. they pull crazy amouts of air. my buddy had a black magic fan and had cooling problems then went to a 20 dollar tarus fan and no more cooling issues

Does the Taurus fan come with a fan shroud, or did you put it in your stock shroud?

not only will installing the electric fan help cooling youd also be surprised at the power it will free up by losing the engine driven one

i bought an electric fan at schucks, it fits perfectly in the stock fan shroud... and a thermostat set at 160... we'll have to see how it doest before i take ti down to AZ. shouldn't do that bad. i was origianly gogn to use it for a bed mounted radiator but i didn't fell like running alot of tubing and a paycheck's worth of coolant through my rig so im just doing electric up front....

Hey Mobber, how much did the fan and thermo cost? Can I get a thermostat for a fan out of a 89 buick 3.8 ltr? It would be nice to have the fan turn on when it has to, but also be able to turn it on and off manually. Do you have any pics? Thanks, trav

i'd imagine that the thermostat would work on your buick fan... its an adjustable thermo 160 -210, it kicks on at a certain tem p and there is a relay to hook up a manual switch also, i'll get you the part number asap all together it was 85$ for the 13" fan (fits perfectly in 82 shroud) and thermo 20 for thermo 65 for fan... and the fan can be used as a push or a pull fan, you just switch teh wires around... bad ass if i do say so myself

i haven't fired the engine yet, im rebuilding it, but teh thermostat is supposed to sit next to the radiator i think, on some bracket but it probably could just go into it. i've hooked up the fan off of my battery and it blows a ton, i also have 2 8" fans taht i might use for pull fans but im not sure. im going on vacatino so i won't be able to let you knwo how it works till aferwads (i have to tow a cheep heap of a jeep down to AZ) good luck...

some volvos have a tube with a tstat built in that you can cut the rad hose and stick it there not sure of the temp you will find but some water on the stove and a themometer and meter will clue that in quick. used one before works great. Jim

What would be the best vehicle to get an electric fan out of at the junk yard to fit a 1989 pickup with a 22RE.
Thanx,

I had a 88 v6 4runner that I swapped a 91 escort cooling fan out of and it worked great.

Around what year of Taurus? Do the Taurus and Escorts have there own thermostats so they turn on and off automatically? I would imagine they would.
Thanx

;D Not to bust balls... I KNOW everybody's trying to do this on a budget. But the Flex-a-Lite fan from Jegs is $220, w/t-stat & controller, mounts to stock Toyota shroud mounts. I just don't see where you're saving $ the other way. Later...

I got my Taurus fan out of an early 90s Taurus for $10. Its not the two speed one like most people like to use and I had to trim the shroud down 1/2'' to make it fit and I zip tied it to the rad. Its been on there since spring has not come loose at all. I got an adjustable thermostat from Summit and it works perfect. It was $27. This fan pushes an awful lot of air and it cools the motor down very fast. It didn't take that long to put in at all and it did do a bit for mileage and power but not a whole lot. Every little bit helps on these motors though. For me the whole setup cost about $50 and its been working perfectly since spring.
