Okay for those of you who are as anal about your yota looking sweet as i am, i've found a great product to make your engine compartment shine like new. it's called Engine Detailer. Pick up a couple cans of it and go to town on everything under the hood (just be careful around the alternator). you can spray it on everything. when you first apply it, it's gonna look too wet, but let it air dry for about 20 mins and then when the engine gets up to operating temperature, it forms a coating and makes everything shine. real sweet. plus, it's keep all your hoses soft and keep any plastic from cracking. try it........made my engine compartment look awesome.

working at a detail shop, we would clean the engines and everything else for dealerships all the time, and vehicles from georgia have clay baked on em all the time.. go to one of those coin self wash car washes, and pressure wash your engine.. cover your distributer with a plastic bag, turn it on and use degreaser on the tough spots more then everywhere else, but you can pressure wash and get a LOT of crap on there taken off, just don't spray it into your intake or all over the distributor and you will be fine.. it's pretty easy not to hit those two things, specially on all the yota trucks i've seen.
if you have some stuff REALLY on there, get some wheel acid, not sure where to buy it retail as we got it by the 5 gallon size, dillute with water, and make sure your windshield is wet in case of over-spray you don't want it sitting on stuff to let it eat away.. anyways, spray that on and then pressure wash again..
and elbow grease will always help... if you can get some gunk off by your hands or stick, toothbrush, etc. then do that first, and then you can get it that much cleaner with the pressure washer.
and that detail stuff you were talkin about puting on.. we used that too.. you soak the entire engine with it, and then you go back with a rag and wipe it in, it takes the wet look away from it and makes everything look brand new. it's just an oil-based armor all, so you can get any oil based protective thing and spray it on there.
there's also a cool trick about spraying that stuff at a lighter and insta-torch.. lol
if you have a white truck, the wheel wells would need to be wiped down by hand to get a good clean on em, the pressure washer doesn't do as good of a job.. anyways, that's how we detailed engines at a detail shop i worked for... Very common practice for dealerships, make the engine look pretty and people think it runs like it looks.
other cheap tricks are spray painting the wheel wells black, and that temperature matting on the hood if it's there. most over spray can be taken off with that same oil-based stuff too. and on your door jambs and if it was a car on the trunk jambs- interior use a water-based armor all... and any tough spots inside like vents, cracks, a tooth brush.. for carpets, use car wash soap, and a wash mit and scrub it after you vacum and then vacum again, get out stains quite well. newspaper really does get windows clean, not just a homeless thing, and then go back with a special rag and will be very shiny (special rag is a textured rag that can be ought at wal mart, autozone, etc. gets streaks out and is meant for a hand wax, to rub the "wax off") if you have rhino liner spray paint that biatch black too if it's faded, spray paint your windshield wipers black, use steel wool on wheels.. that will get little rust pits and stuff nice and shiny on chrome again.. the pits will still be there, but like None of the rust color... steel wool on wheels in general does a great job... also use steel wool on the white letters on tires, or if you have a fender bender, use it lightly on that black rubber streak or paint stuck on the dent. get carpet die, and you just LIGHTLY spray it on the carpet, nice and even, and a couple other things here and there im forgetting...
But that's what is involved in a nice detail... besides the obvious wash the outside, wax, buff, etc. oh and that oil based armor all stuff can go on wheels too, make em look wet and new.
auto-detail 101.. lol BeNĀ² 82 P/U

When I detail cars something that always works is Brake cleaner. It cleans rims, interior (not fabric) and I also use it in the engine bay. Spray it on the really hard stuff and then spray everything else (except alternator) with degreaser. I used it on my truck when the engine compartement was caked with mud and now it looks great. Especially if you go back and spray tire shine (Wet & Black is what I use) all over, wait a couple of minutes, then wipe with rag.
On one guys car I even buffed the valve covers.....
