Iwas looking for a nice diff guard type thing and i found them but they were over $50. I was talking about it with a friend of mine who did this "pipe cap mod" to his Sammy, it works well so i gave it a shot. I went to the local drilling supply store and got a 10inch weld on pipe cap ($33) and marked a line to cut it half After i cut in half i made some small triangle shaped cuts on the rounded side to let all the mud and crap drain out. (you may have to make another cut to get at your gear oil filler hole) after that just weld it on( i know that mine is a little messed up but it's not that bad for welding when it's 12 degrees out side)

That looks good man. I made mine out of 1/2" rebar. I just bent the rebar in a vise and then cut to where I wanted it. It looks like a face mask. I painted it red to stand out. It looks tits. I need to go to a frients house and post some pics. You need one of my reciever hooks man. I have been selling them locally for 30$ Normally I use just use square tube but I just made two special ones out of solid. I had some laying around the shop. THey have had some real world testing, there is no way you are going to break'em. Puling out 20,000 plus. Your hitch will let loose before the hok breaks. The mouth on the hook where you put hte strap in is about 3". They are good sized.

Yep, they work like a charm. You can slam into rocks all day long and not blink an eye. THis is my front one and it has held up great, the only thing I have done to it is paint it to keep rust down.

I used some small pipe and 1/2" steel. seams to be holdind up. of course i'm not runnin toy axles so bolt on is more applicaple for me. However that pipe cap looks bullet proof. Ya gotta scoop lots of mud out of it?

I believe the pipe cap is similar to WWI helmets. its a soup bowl, shaving pan and head protecter. hell if it works. but... the solid surface design of it is a goog thing. the open spindle cover could have a weld broken and puncture the rear cover.(prob take one hell of a hit to do it) Maybe they use the pipe-cap covers to warm up their lunch on long trail rides. I love a bowl of hot chicken soup!!!

they only rocks we have here(cny)are covered w/oil and pressed. well enough though, that's all most 4x4's ever see anyway. good work/designs anyway guy's. It's nice to see someone make something from nothing. The only thing that could spoil it is if you "paid" for the cap or scrap metal, that would be a real shame..... thanks for the advice.
