my toyota is way more fun i bought an adapter from auto zont to convert 2 to 4 barrel and put an out of the box 1405 edlebrock 600. ya buddy and it runs better now than ever at least sence i have had it. i had to do a little grinding to the side of the adapter and i had to use a deburring bit to elongate the 4 inner most holes

all you need to do this is spectra part# 5772 2-4 barrel adapter a 1inch spacer and a four barrel carb 4 barrel carb either edlebrock, holly or even better predator. i used an edlebrock 1405 600 cfm cause i already had it. yes 600 and it runs really good cause of the easily adjustable idle mixture screws but i need to do a little tweaking still runs a little rich now take the stock carb off and all the vacuum lines even the hard ones that run along the valve cover and you have to do something with the sensor that has 2 vacuum lines no it that is in the middle of the intake i smashed the one on my truck now take the adapter and elongate the the four innermost holes i used a burring bit(red areas) and grind the side (blue area) then bolt the adapter on then use the 1 inch adapter if you can use a 1.5 or 2 inch that would be the way to go so you don't have to bend the throttle arm for valve cover clearance but you would have to have a 3 inch body for hood clearance i cant put a air cleaner on my truck until i do a body lift pic of the adapter with no red or blue adapter bolted on all bolted together now the throttle is still being worked on i think spectra makes a universal throttle cable I'm going to look in to vacuum is prity easy just plug off any thing that comes from the intake and hook up the pcv valve and vac advance and a gas line and your done if you want to hook up the choke its easy as buying a universal chock cable and hooking it up

getting a new to me carb. to replace the 600 cfm edlebrock it is a predator it uses a verible venturi design and meters fuel in relasionship with the airflow demands of the engine so it should be no prob to make it run close to stoicho matric dont quote me on the spelling here is a pic

Is the motor a stock L4?

Post by silvertrkposi on Mar 6, 2006 15:48:45 GMT -5
yup compleatly stock
with the edlebrock it runs but not as good as it could. 600 cfm carb set up to run a v8 on a 4 banger = way to rich mixture but like i said it runs. if i had a four barrel intake and an lot of money to do engin mods like cam, head work, higher compresion ,and open exaust it might not take that much tuning to make run right but i dont
im trying to make as much horse as i can on a low budget plus i like being different. i like power im use to driving v8 trucks and had the carb siting around so i tryed it . but in switching to a predator to try to keep the power but make it run like it should

well i got the predator a yesterday and put it on today the monster runs good still idels a little high but i can deal with it i cant wait to get the thing to hook up and see how much balls it has
but realy predators rock. the accelerator pump gasket leaks bad from not being used and drying out so i took the rod that acuates it off so i could run it with out gass pouring out every time i hit the gas and it barly even stumbles i know i know imposable but its true i can drive it easly with no accelrator pump try that with your every day carb haha and the rpm's jump the tach dont rise it jumps mucho improvement over the edlebrock wich was to big for a stock 4 banger
this truck is going to impress at the bogs if i dont break anything

i have a holley 4barrel on mine as well. its mounted on an offenhauser intake however...
i wouldnt recommend this, and the only reason i havent switched back to two barrel is i found a really good mechanic who got it to work awesome and tuned it perfect.
and for the first time, today actually, i had my truck flood due to angle. i was leaned over to the passenger side, and in low gear so the rpms were low, and it died, flooded, and wouldn't start until i got it back to level. however, to the driver side, or extreme front or back angle, its done great.
but again, theres no reason in the world you'd need a 4barrel unless you had an engine that needed all that fuel.
again mine runs good, but you can smell the richness in the exhaust...tuned right, not fouling plugs, but only cuz im lucky

If you dont mind me asking what did the adapter and the predator carb run you in price? What I'm wondering is the price for your setup? And I want to know how it does? I think thats awesome!!! My 85 is going to be more for go than show. I plan to take it to the mud bogs.

I checked I have a North West Offroad book with all the prices and the Offenhauser Dual Port Intake Manifold for a 83-95 22R is $ 238.95. It has 4 barrel dual ports made to bolt to a holy 4 barrel carb. They also have a holly 4 barrel kit. 4 barrel Dual Port Intake manifold, 390 cfm holley 4 barrel, k&n fiter fit, all throttle linkage, spacer, air cleaner stud, and all gaskets for $ 872.95. Requires toyota lower water plate $ 100.45.
