hey guys do you think i should straight axle my 90 4 runner or ifs lift it ?? Would totally help if you told us what you use your truck for. What type of wheeling do you do? Solid axle isn't always the correct answer. It's usually the right answer only if you are into rock crawling.

I'd SAS it and put 12'' superlift springs under it. "buck board" suspension, but you'd LOOK cool. You talking 38.5 or 44's? Hell go for the Interco 49's! Stew

ok guys i have a 1990 toyota 4runner its got a stock 4 link in the rear but any ways an ifs lift i only can get a 4" and if i straight axle it i can go from 3"- 6" and i wheel once in awhile but ifs gets not flex it lifts a tire off the ground so the reason i want a striaght axle is more flex bigger lift

i would look at the price! even if you only wheel a few times a year you need to look at what size tire you want to run. 35's on a IFS is pretty much the limit. now i'm not saying you can't run bigger tires with IFS. a 4" IFS lift should get you up on 35's. do you want to bigger than 35's ? now the straight axle is stronger than IFS plus you can go with a bigger lift than 4" at any time plus you can flex better than with IFS with the right springs. now you need to look at gears. will you need them with the tires you are going to run! well i'm just running off at the mouth now! just my $.02! later!

Sounds as though you've answered your own question.

Stew...you were sayin up top run 12 inch springs and a 38 or 44 swamper. Nix that, he needs some 52 inch ag tires with that much sping.

Dont forget that matching that front sas lift in the back while retaining the 4link coil set up is going to be difficult. Most of the guys i know that SASd a second gen 4runner, and there are more and more all the time, also swap the rear out to a leaf spring set up. Although the cost of this is low the time involved is probably about triple the time involved in doing an SAS. Food for thought.

Do you have lockers? It doesn't matter how much flex you have a locked vehicle will crawl circles around an unlocked one.

Stick with the IFS if you don't rock crawl it. I rode in my buddy's 97 Taco at 60mph down a ROUGH road hanging on for dear life when my 83's straight axle would have been broken down. Toy's look cool without a 12 inch lift and 44's. Get cooler looking tires with chrome rims and some flames if you value style. Mine looks like crap with a crappier stereo, but I can beat my way thru tree branches and icky trails without stressing over my paint job. I Pimp in my Dodge with it's Hemi, leather, and a 15 inch sub when I care about what I look like! But I pick up more chicks in my 83 POS truck, GO TOYOTA!

If you have the $$ dough, get the SAS, you will get mad respect for it and it will open up all kinds of options. Although if you have lockers, a wheel in the air wont slow you down so much. My bud three wheels his Taco all the time but he can probably school me rockcrawling just because of the lockers and fuel injection despite my advantage in flex. We both run 33's and we can both school most Jeeps due to lockers and breakover clearance, entrance and exit angles common to all Toyota's.

Ok if you go Ifs the front end can be lifted on up pretty easy. Ok I cant remember what company it was but my buddy has them they are larger millimeter torsion bars. And they add lift and can be cranked on up for more lift. Plus with the 4" suspension lift you will be able to run a pretty big tire. Than theres always a 3" body lift. Not sure on the rear because you will have about 7" of suspension lift. My buddy has all of this on a 93 yota 4x4 with about 10" lift all together running 39x18x15 boggers. Went through 3 rearends in a week with 5.29 gears.
