i got a 1993 4x4 toyota, looking to but a 4"-5" lift to get 33x12.5 on. it's all stock right now, just want to now, what the best lift kit would be for the smoothest ride.

its goin to be something with coilovers. i dont know the best brands but coiovers will give the best ride

with that much lift you might as well do a SAS.

I seriously doubt he is goiong to go with that setup. The truck is all stock so it not a baja or offroad vehicle. Hes looking for the best riding ifs kit. His best bet is call the offroad shops in his area and ask them what they think from all the kits they have put on. Then make his choice. Me personally I would crank the torsion bars and put some shackles on the rear. Maybe a bodylift. But thats my 2 cents.

Yeah thats right. It would be cool if he did the total chaos kit or any coilover kit but I can imagine there a lil more expensive then a standard IFS lift.

i used tuff country it was crap it bent and then i cut if off for an SAS

any other advice for ifs lift kits. iam looking at some 4" lifts just want enough clearance to fit a set of 33x12.5 Option A: Tbar crank and blocks or AAL in the rear, fit 33x9.5's, 12.5's will rub a bit offroad, nothing a little trimming/hammering cant fix. Ruffer ride, but cheap. Option B: 3in Body lift, fits 33x12.5 tires, don't "think" they rubbed, was on a buddies truck. See the frame, looks "ugly" with no gap guards or whatever, ride stays the same(other than tires effecting it) and cheap Option C: Random IFS lift, no experience with them, know a chick with a IFS first gen 4runner, has a random IFS lift, fits 35's with no-minimal rubbing. costs more, rides better than my solid axle. Id go with option A, cheap, simple, not the best ride, but still rides better than my solid axle 85 Embrace the sawzall

what about ball joint spacers. they are cheap and gibe 1.5 inches of life and toss a shackle in the rear

My advice would be, spend the $$ on a great lift now so you don't have to do it again later. I've done a T-Bar crank on my Dodge and it will stiffen the ride up since you are putting the bars under more torsional pressure. Not a whole bunch mind you, but enough to notice. Put the bars to rest, get a coil-over, and you will be ready to jump that sucker. I've seen well built Tacomas jump a good distance, land, and never bottom out. Coils in front, All Pro long travel leafs in the rear! Unless of course you don't plan on keeping the truck for long. In that case, twist the bars, throw some lift blocks in the back and break out the sawzaw.

I like the truck and want to put money into the right lift, i have no experince with them, any advice would on differnt lifts kits would be great.

What do you plan on using the truck for?
If you just want to fit tires for looks, and maybe occational wheeling why not just do a body lift? If for wheeling what kind of wheeling? Mud? sand? rocks? snow?
If you are wanting to do rocks the IFS will never perform as well as you want and might as well save yourself some time and money and so a SAS now. Marlin Crawler, Allpro, Trailgear, and Sky all have SAS kits, and I am sure others do as well, just those poped in my head.
Or you more into prerunning and jumping? If that is more your speed then a long travel IFS coilover kit from Total Chaos might better suit your needs.
Mud and snow, at least if you keep it moderate a standard IFS lift and 33's can be just fine, dont know much about brands, most lifts apear really similar to me though.
And if you just do some simple trails, nothing too hardcore and are lookng for a lift and tires to improve performance a locker might be a better first mod. With just my rear detroit I could go places on 31's that others on 35's and open diffs had a lot of trouble on. Only problem was I had to be more careful about body damage.

what if i crank the t-bars and throw ball joint spacers, could i get enough room for 33x12.5 and put either aal, shackles or blocks in the back, would that be a good set up? and if so any idea roughly it cost?

i went with a 3" b/l and some 1.5" ball joint spacers and shackles and 33's fit with no problems.
