Tacomas are little different in doing the SAS. I've heard differing reports on how hard it is and read some other write ups on it. If you want to go with a toyota axle i don't think it would be that hard. If you want to go with a dana 44 you would need to find a wagoneer dana 44 axle with drive side drop. The taco also has a different frame structure up front than the older pickups. I don't think it is that hard to do but then again it depends on how hard it would be for you to do it. Anything is possible without enough tools, money, and parts.
So how hard it is depends on how you want to do it and who is going to do it. It can be done and makes a big difference in offroad ability. I've seen some sick tacos with SAS dana 44 axles. Start reseraching it if your really interested.

that is one of the sweetest rides ive ever seen its real clean i do have a couple questions why the 44 and not the 60 and 70 and what will you do for a power upgrade in the motor maybe a 4.3 or a v8 and where did you get the shocks at

I chose the 44 cause I really didn't want to run anything bigger than a 37" tire. Also 44's can be strong enough if they have the right gear. I don't want to run a large engine with a bunch of torque. Thats when you start breaking stuff. Right now my 3.0 v6 is fine and when i get a doubled transfer case, the torque will be great for the rocks. I might later upgrade to a vortec 4.3 v6, but that would be just for daily driving power. It does fine for me on the trails. I don't get into a lot of mud either so I don't need a v8 and big meats. I got the shocks from All Pro Offroad.

Was wondering if you have the right up done yet. Im looking to use Chevy axles on my 87 cause i have two chevys at the house and am hoping that it will help with the cost.

Steve, just under the VOTE NOW words above the messages, is a grey menubar. Go to Articles, Toyota Project Center. There you will find the write up. Or, you can go directly to the project center here: www.toyotaoffroad.com/articles/projects/projects.htmGood luck with your swap. BTW, if you are interested in doing your own write-up, please feel free. I would be happy to publish it.
