Hey guys, I need some help finding a good lift kit for my 80' Toyota long bed. Im new to the Toyota scene. Im looking for a kit that will give me room for 35" IROKs. Im looking at the Skyjacker 7" but i'd like to have shackles included in the kit.

it depends on what you want out of the kit. If you want a bolt in kit and don't care how it rides on the street or performs off road, then get the skyjacker.
If you don't mind doing a little measuring and welding, do a mazda or chevy spring swap on the back, put your rear springs up front and use the money you saved on hy-steer or a locker and gears. This set up will ride like a cadillac and flex like crazy.

the downside to the all pro kit is that its worth about as much as if not more than your solid axle yota... my best bet would be to go to a junkyard buy the 56" springs off a chevy, get some add a leafs and then buy the hy-steer and what you cant get from the scrapper. it's probably gona be like $1000 cheaper (all pro = 1700 + shipping) its a good kit but its alot of cash

I was thinking about getting Chevy springs. I was told to put chevy springs in the back and move the toyota rear springs to the front, but I was wondering why I can't just put a chevy lift kit on the truck. I also wondered what type of mods I would have to do, if any for the chevy spring swap. Thanks for all the help.

You may have to do some mods, depending on which Chevy you get them from, there are different lengths. I pulled my pair from a 1975 3/4 ton Chevy pick-up. They were about 56" long. I had to move the rear spring hanger forward. Best to cut off the old hanger and get new hangers from an aftermarket place and weld the new ones in. Then the old rear Toyota springs can be moved up front. This is getting to be one of the most common Toyota modifications, and it does work well. I personally run a set of 5" Skyjacker springs up front and the Chevy's out back, the set up works great and offers tons of flex, I am really happy with it. I am going to be doing 4-link out back soon though, for even more articulation, if you want my springs?

I run 14" travel shocks with my rear Chevy springs. However my entire rig is tubed from the firewall back, so the shocks are obviously located different from factory. btw, they're Doetsch Tech. Don't run Ford products on your Yota -- that's Sacrelig J/K -- i'm sure you "could" make it work, but not advisable. As far as steering, if you use the stock steering set-up, get an adjustable drag link, although the prefered method would be to swap in crossover steering. 79-83 Toys rule, build 'em right the first time, and they'll amaze you where they can wheel

Thought you might be, I heard that was yer planz from Ryan, and saw the post and was thinkin, that sounds familiar! roll cage eh? dont wanna smash in yer cab like his either? It is a lot nicer looking now that he took the backhoe to it, and the frame is almost straight!! I should be moving up to Federal Way about the end of June 05, so maybe I can see yer rig some time after you get back and maybe we could tear some things up. **edit**I know you can make homebrewed crossover setups, just dont know much about it. Might try searching the web and pirate4x4 to see if you can find some writeups on it.
