Ok I've heard that this has been done and after blowing out my frickin' voltage regulator again! So what is the deal with putting a chevy 1 wire alternator in place of my oh so crappy toyota one? Please tell me so I don't just go waste money this friday on a new regulator. Thanks

The only "deal" is mounting it. No one makes a bracket to do so, so you're on your own there. Then just hook the output wire to the battery.

Ya but what about all those wires that plug in the back to the voltage regulator?(which I hate so much) It's a ONE wire alternator. The ONE wire that come's out of it goes straight to the battery. The alt is "self exciting", the voltage reg is in the alt. Once it hits ~3000 RPM it starts charging. Forget the Toy external v reg. You want a Delco SI alt, very common, to convert. Or buy one already converted.

Ok but I have an INTERNAL toyota V. regulator. So I just leave the wiring harness dangling then? and if so will I get all my power options back like my tach and turn signals and such when I just run the one wire from my alt. to my battery? and as for the delco you mentioned is there a specific part # you have handy or will I just have to ask for a chevy 1 wire alt? thanks for all the advise so far and I'm sorry about all the questions I just dont want to f*ck my truck up anymore then I have lol

Ok well I figured it out. It took alot of splicing information together but I got it down now. Hell I might do a write up on it and see if our oh so wonderful webmasters want to put it on the site lol. The Delco 10 SI alternator is the one you want. it has only 2 signal leads you use instead of the 3 on the old yota one. You use the one to your check engine light (L) and the one from your Sense (S) and leave the one from your ignition disconnected. and run the top wire to your battery of course. This is all theory on my part but I'll let you know how it works out next week.

Ok I just got a Delco CS-130D alt. for free. 105amps baby I'll have to really mess with the bracketry though cause it's off a 94 s10 2.2L. It's a little diff but essentially the same. It has plugs4 instead of the SI's 2 but you just use the L and the S plug. I'm going to go cut the harness off at the tear a part yard and that will make all the connections easier. And also the CS is not rebuildable by your average joe but it's built for smaller displacement engines. My advice is to read up on all the available alternators and make your own choice but since I got this one for free mine is clear lol.

Ok I got the darn thing in and now nothing. I'm thinking I got the wires wrong since I did get the info off the internet and all. I'll call the toy. dealership tomorrow and see what wire is which. cause now my charge light never comes on so I think it fried the blub oh well I got a few extras so I guess I'll go tear that out now and see if the blub is toast. damn gm parts lol. Oh and putting it in was pretty simple only needed to make a connecting bracket from the top hole of the alt to the tension bracket takes about 10 minutes to fabricate out of bar stock. and it just slips into the bottom bracket with a little bit of space I just left it as is. Yeah like I said I used a Ac Delco CS130D alternator for a 94 chevy s10 2.2L
