I was wondering, how much of a difference is it to go from 4.10's and 33's to 4.88's and 35's?(i know, i know..GO 5.29 for 35's...I got the front 3rd with 4.88 for CHEAP.) Is it going to be a big difference on the highway? I know there will be a little difference off road in 4lo but i wasn't sure if it would be that much. I have a 88 p/u 4cyl 5spd.

4.88/35's will be better for power and economy than 4.10/33's, it's closer to stock ratio.

yet... on the highway you may notice more drag from the heavier tire(and possibly wider). heavier on braking too.
just my 33x12.5 and 4:10 opinion. (I've had a noticeable diff running at33's to mt33's)

i have seen a 4 banger yota ROAST some 35 w/ 4.88 gears, he dosnt have a problem off road or starting, but he tops 5th gear out at like 85mph. He also whines every time he has to fill up, it all depends on weather its more of a trail rig, daily driver

thats bullshit dude. Unless he was running some tricked out motor setup or put it in 4lo without engaging the hubs, he couldn't roast them. Shoot I could barely get my tires to spin on asphalt, and thats when I still had the stock 225/75s on

I have 4:88's and 33's yes I can get some noise out of them but sure as hell ain't ROASTING anything and I can't see the fuel thing either. I got 18+ before I installed the e-fan now I get 23 mpg and I get to the rev limiter in 4th gear at 106 mph BUT in 4lo you can watch the fuel guage go down. The only way he's roasting 35's is if he has a cam upgrade,supercharger,e-fan,t/b spacer,k&n, header and cat back exhaust

I still have the stock gears and 32s, and I was going to be late for work one day so I hopped on the left lane with the other idiots, kept up no problem at all and was doing about 96

so it would help that much to put 4.88s? and will i be able to go over 70? the way i figure its cause the tires are so small.

MY $.02. A BUDDY OF MINE AND I WENT TO LOOK AT 85 TRUCK ON 44" WITH 5.71'S. WHEN HE TEST DROVE THE TRUCK THE GUY WENT WITH AND TOLD HE TO GET ON IT. WHEN HE TOOK OFF HE SET THEM 44'S A SPINNING WITH NO PROBLEM. I HAVE 35'S AND 5.29'S I'VE GOT ALL THE POWER I WANT TO SPIN TIRES EVEN ON PAVEMENT. IF I REALY WANT I CAN POWER BRAKE AND SMOKE THEM UP. THAT'S NOT IN LOW RANGE SO YOU KNOW. I MUST SAY TIRE PRICES ARE TO HIGH FOR ME SO I DON'T DO IT ANYMORE.

AND WITH THE HOUSING MODIFACATIONS I DON'T THINK YOU CAN REPLACE THE HYBRID WITH A BIRFIELD. WHEN YOU BREAK THE BELLFIELD YOU CAN JUST SLAP IN ANOTHER BIRFIELD AN KEEP ON WHEELIN.

Hey guys I have a question about gears. I have a 1998 Tacoma v6 with stock gears and want to change them out to a better gear. What gear should I go with? I still want to be able to run 90mph or so when I need to but is rare on the highway so I really don't need alot for hard mud riding. Just something to get me close back to stock feel with my 35" tires. Also any ideas on what brand to buy.
