Locker

My 85 toy has some 36 inch IROKs and I want to get some 5.29 gears. Where should I get them at? How had are they to install? I have my rear end welded right now so could I keep it welded with 5.29 gears?

The best place to get gears is from Randy's www.ringpinion.com/.
Instead of welding it why don't you get a spool locker. They not that expensive and are less likely to break.

Could you tell me everything I would need plus where to get it? How hard are they to install?

Search e-bay for misc parts.

I've got a slightly diff attitude with diffs/welding and such.
Not that it right or better, but......
If your welding spiders for a locker, you obviously, don't intend on spending too much.
If your off road only, what kind of wheeling are you doing?
A duel transfer case or v-8 might be a more viable option than a gear/locker setup.
The plus of a lincoln locked 4:10 gearset is you can replace them monthly for $100 or less (around here.NY)
5:29's are on the weaker end of the pinion diameter scale, but I've never had nor broke one anyway.

You sound as though your at the threshhold of deep pockets or thrifty innovations.

36's hurt a 4 or 6 even in low range.
Duel transfer case? YEP! will get you there.
Good idea? Alot of $$$?
A v-8 will turn 4:10's all day long.

I have ran with a welded rear for over a year now and its just fine. My truck also goes decent on the highway with the 36s. I dont really know what you are talking about. Take speech class ever?

really if u have to ask how to install gears then u prolly shouldnt do it. there is a lot of stuff that can go wrong if u dont set it up right. with that said. i would prolly have someone set up the gears. ask them if u can stay and watch it will give u a good understanding how it is done. as far as keepin the welded rear u can do it. as far as a dual cas e set up and a v8 swap. doin gears is a lot cheaper then both of them.

if you don't have alot of money then i would go with the gears and the locked rear end. if you're onroad some would say to go with a lunchbox locker and not to weld. i'm sure that that would be better but if you've been driving on a welded rear for over a year and it hasn't broke then i must assume that you had someone who knew how to weld spider gears together do it and therefore would probly suggest saving your money and having them do it again. now if you're building an offroad only vehicle then i would definately say that the duel t-case would be the best option. it might cost a bit more but it would be worth it. i would say that the duel t-case would be the way to go either way but having 4.10's with 36s onroad in high range would just suck soo much. so if you're onroad go with gears and locker. if you're offroad only go with duel t-case adn then weld your rear end jsut for kicks. my .02$

I agree with fellowsped on this. Welding only if you know how or know someone that knows how to weld spider gears right.
As far as installing gears and prices......

Gears -$100 ea.
Bearing set - $100 ea.
Spool locker - $50 ea.
Axle seals - $10 (2)
Labor for install - $150 ea. (if you pull the 3rd)

OR

Full 3rd member - $350 ea. or w/ spool locker - $400 ea.
Axle seals - $10 (2)
Labor - $0 (you install)

3rd members are a fairly simple task. if you have basic mechanical skill I think you should be able to do it.

ive seen them for about 190 from all pro offroad, but I think a proper weld, not something you hillbilly neighbor with two batteries, some jumper cables, and rod that he found in a puddle three years ago who thinks he knows how to turn on the welder, would be a lot stronger than an aluminum spool.
