Hi there! I`m new to the board, hobby and this is my first post.
For the summer I took on `88 4Runner project, I got alot of help from this board archives. Appreciated.
I`m pretty much done rebuilding power train and suspension on the truck. Regearing for bigger tires is whats left. I recently got factory electric locker third member for rear axle. I ordered 4.88 Yukon for it. Got the gears Friday, bugger is spline for companion flange on the pinion is smaller than one from the locker. I do not recal reading anything on this in my searches for Toyota locker retrofit.
Question is what modifications are requred to regear Toyota factory locker? Is it as simple as replacing companion flange and nut from open V6 diff?

Hmmm, I recall something about 4.88's and V6 3rds. The gears are different I believe, I think only one gear mfgr actually makes true V6 gears in a 4.88 ratio. But I think others can be used with proper shimming.
I'll try to find the info.

I found this info for you. If you go down to the axle section it talks about the V6 4:88 option. It looks like the 3rd member used for 4:88's has a different pinion location than any other 3rd member. www.4x4wire.com/toyota/faq/parts/
