Welcome to the forum aussielocker! As you can probably tell, I am a big fan.
I am in the middle of a huge project cutting and rotating my knuckles, armoring and gussetting my front axle, and changing my gears out. The front axle is such a huge pain to open up and get to the third member that I am going to be moving my locker from the back to the front. I am upgrading to Longfields now too so I want to get it all finished at the same time and hopefully close it up and leave it for a decade or so. I hope to have it all finished in the next couple of weeks. The rear axle is a dream to dissasemble compared so I will throw the open 3rd from the front back there regeared to 5.29's as well. When $$ permits, I will be ordering another Aussie to complete the picture then watch out, here I come!

If you dont still have your installation manual please download it from our web site so you have the information on the two spacings that need to be held within tolerance. You can find the manual on the front page of www.aussielocker.com on the left side, just click on Do It Yourself and download the manual. Let us know if you run into any installation issues or questions. Thank you for your planned purchase of another Aussie Locker.

I just ordered the second Aussie so if I ever finish the rest of the project I will let everyone know just how kick butt the setup is!

do they also have a LSD for the front solid axle? I don't trust a locker in the front because of the CV joints ... I'm scared it breaks them!

... and what's stronger, a Lockrite, Powertrax or an Aussie?

Aussie claims to have a stronger tooth pattern. Don't know for sure as I haven't heard of either of the other two breaking.

just a quick question does it drop your gas milage at all due to both wheels being powered instead of just one and what are your opinions of putting one up front ... i have the manual hubs thanks

I don't think it will affect your gas mileage as even an open diff will send power to both wheels when they both have traction. As far as putting one up front, do it! I absolutely love having both front and rear lockers. It hasn't made too much of a difference with steering on the trail, but my gains in traction and ability to crawl up obsticles has been greatly enhanced!

is it really that easy to do yourself? i'm sick of paying a mechanic $100 or more an hour. I'm going to check out aussielockers suggestion and read the manual. My wife had rear lockers on her FJ cruiser and they were awesome. my '92 runner has been asking for lockers for xmas for years. can you put on front lockers with IFS?

Yes, there just aren't quite as many options for the 7.5" diff as for the 8" rear diff.

ARB's are and entirely different company, do a google search. ARB's are selectable, replace the entire carrier, are much stronger and much more expensive. They can be switched from an open carrier setting to a locked carrier setting with the flick of a switch. I would recommend them in an instant to anyone that can afford them. I will be taking my aussies out when I can afford ARB's although I still have never had a failure with the aussies. I just want selectable lockers.
