I have owned several Toyota trucks, and 4Runners and have been very happy with them. I recently upgraded from my 86 pickup to a 95 T-100 4x4 E-Cab. This truck has 123K miles on it and runs perfectly. However, when accelerating, I hear a rattle coming from the engine compartment. I had my mechanic look at it and he says it is just a rattle. Could it be something in the firewall? Also, I also own a 96 4Runner with the same 3.4 V-6 in it. In comparison, the T-100 seems like something is holding it back when you are coasting, compared to the 4 Runner, almost as if the parking brake is on. They both are manual transmisons, the only difference in the two, is the T-100 has a newer clutch, and it was installed by a less than reputable transmission place, months prior to my purchasing it. Could a clutch installed wrong cause this? Am I just paranoid?

I'm not much for rattles so I'd hunt it down and kill it. It could be something on the firewall or maybe something like the the heat shield being loose. I'd just go throught it and see if you can find anything that's loose. Might even be some where under the dash. I would also think that any good mechanic would look for it to let you know what it was if not also just fix it for you.
