I'm working on a '90 with the 3VZE V6. The bearing in the idler wheel (the one between the camshafts) is pretty shot. Anybody know how to change it? The haynes manual I have doesn't have any info on it.

The bearing was pretty seized up, but I shot some PB blaster into it, worked it a bit, and it freed up. Probably not going to fix it permanently, but I'll leave it alone til it acts up again.

You dont change the bearing, you change the idler. Mine spun the bearing right out until it cut a hole in the timing cover. Cant remember what the part was worth as it was years ago that i did it but its only a little extra time over changing the belt. And if you are going to do it change the belt and depending on the mileage maybe the water pump as well if you can afford it.

Yeah, i talked to one of the the parts stores and they said they sell the whole idler assembly, not just the bearing. But there were none in town (I live in an isolated town in Alaska) so I'll deal with it next time it pipes up. The thing I couldn't figure out is how to remove the idler assembly. I could have started unbolting things until it became apparent, but no worries, I'll deal with it later. PB blaster saved me again on this one.
