My front main seal is leaking a bit. Has anyone ever put a new one in without pulling the timing chain cover? If so, did it work? I'm really not looking forward to pulling the cover off anytime soon.

I may be wrong with this but, its my understanding that the seal you are talking about is more then likely your oil pump seal. Since the timing cover encases the front of the block you wouldnt need to remove it. But i will check my pdf's and see truely what to do.

Now that you mention it, I guess that is the oil pump seal. I forgot how toyota had these motors set up. I'm reasonably sure I can destroy the old one enough to get it out. But do you think I can tap a new one in, over the end of the crank without damaging it?

im sure it can all be done without pulling the pump. Just take your time and make sure you get a good even seal. Buy two seals just incase it doesnt work out well

Yes, that is correct. The seal that is leaking is in the oil pump, i just had to do my timing chain. It isnt very hard to do. when your breaking the crankshaft pulley off you will have to put a breaker bar on the frame and bump start the engine.

The several times i have had to pull the crank pulley i couldnt get my 1000ftlb IR impact to bust it off. I had to use the breaker and starter method. Good luck.
