Best place to start is a rear locker. If you want a "great crawler" then you are going to need reduced transfercase gears or a doubler. Also pretty much anything built for crawling will have a solid front axle, so add in a solid axle swap.

Well to start off, what is it going to mainly be used for? 1. DD 2. Mud Bogging 3. Mild Off Roading 4. Rock Crawling
Here's somewhat of my breakdown on how I look at it.
DD: If it's going to see a lot of pavement then you want to try and keep as much of the nice smooth ride quality that it has. Thus the IFS system is good. You can get up to (I believe) a 6" lift for it and will do fine for some mild off roading, but you will not get any really good flex out of it.
Mud Bogging: Lockers are usually the best place to start at. If it's going to see a lot of the pavement then I'd suggest an ARB for at least the rear. An auto locker will work to but the rear end will want to hop some around corners. Although you can get around this by using the clutch.
Mild Off Roading If you're going to just be doing some mild offroading while you're getting back into it then maybe a small lift and gears. Now the only problem here is that if plan on doing some rock crawling in the near future then you really don't want to throw money away on the IFS lift.
Rock Crawling: You need lift and suspension. Or in your case a SAS and maybe tires is going to be a good place to start. As far as gears it's more of a preference thing. Some will say lockers and some will say dual case. They both are good and either way you'll be happy with them. The only way I can see a dual case being better is if you're only locking up one axle. Otherwise I see them as equal. Basically if you only have just the dual or just the lockers there will be times when you think that it might be nice to have the other one. And of course the only was around that is to have them both.
Now with all of though depending on what size tires you go to or planning to go to you want to re-gear your axles to work with them.
As for the engine, I’d leave it only till last unless it needs the work done to it or you just want to get more road performance out of it. The 22R is actually a really good dependable motor with some good low-end torque.
