Howdy: Have a 4 cyl, 22RE, 91 pickup that I love, have had since its birth, and am generally very attached to. Need as daily driver but that can haul gear, be solid off road, etc.
Headgasket blew and timing chain is on its way out.
I don't have the skills to rebuild on my own (though I'd like to and have read the discussion on this site)
WHAT TO DO? a. Let a shop I trust install a refurbished engine for 3,000USD b. Just bite the bullet, be a one car family for awhile, and man-up and just figure it out with friends, etc. c. Sell truck for about 7-800 and reinvest in a mid 80s Land Cruiser with low miles or a rebuilt engine.
Help! Darron

Tough call. I'd bet the truck is worth $800-1,200 as is. With a new motor, maybe $2,500-3,000. So, unless you're really (!) attached to it, I'd sell it and replace it. Have you considered a 4Runner? I bet you could get a decent 4x4 4Runner for what it's going to cost to get your truck repaired.

Now this is just my $.02 but I say MAN UP! It's not all that hard to do a Headgasket and timing chain. It should run you a few hundred dollars vice a few grand on another truck.
You can pick up a new motor off ebay for about $1500. GOOD LUCK!
