Unless it involves welding, I do it myself.

I've built/re-built all my trucks from ground up, including the engines and t-cases. The only thing I don't do is trannys, but I have friends that do that. And diffs are best left to the professionals.
If you don't do the work, how will you know how to fix it when it breaks??

I do some things myself. My rig is my daily driver, so I can't risk braking something else trying to do a repair or a mod. I do little things myself like changing the brake pads, fluids, suspension work, etc., but leave more advanced stuff to the pros.

I usually end up working on my truck out of necessity. Something isn't right and I have a weekend to fix it.

Hey, I never started this thread, I wonder what happened to the original post? And why was it resurrected after 2 1/2 months ?

Almost all myself.I like things done right & with the best value parts.4WD1 is right on-with the trail repairs. If your new to 4wheelin' -the best experience you can have is to fix it when your not on the trail yourself -you may have no alternative on the trail.I couldn't afford it to have somebody else work on it-even if I could find a competent, honest mechanic in my area.(they're a rarity-where I live)

I've been working......tinkering.....on cars and trucks since I was 13 years old. Since then I've learned the right ways to rebuilding (from the ground up) a good 4x4 TOY. Of course I've also.....without saying.....have learned a lot of bad ways or ideas of how to do things.
But if it weren't for a little imaginagtion and a few mistakes... how will you every learn.
I've done all the work on my truck except for the diff gears and the trans.
I believe fourwd1 said it best.........."If you don't do the work, how will you know how to fix it when it breaks??"

Do it yourself its cheap labor That all depend on if you know what you're doing. ;D I've known some do it yourselfers that had to spend more money to have someone fix what they did then it would have cost them to just take their truck to someone to do it in the first place.
