the engine bay in my yota is pretty dirty and I was going to clean it out with some degreaser and a pressure washer am I going to hurt anything by doing this? I am completely clueless

Be careful with the pressure washer. It can remove wires pretty easily. Also, wrap a plastic grocery bag around your distributor and alternator to keep most of the water out.

DRIVE THROUGH BIG PUDDLES!!! have the water splash up and clean stuff. HAHAHa. Who knows, it might work a little :0)

until water getrs into your distributor, intake and alternator then your really screwed

If you wash it all out just make sure you let it sit for a while to somewhat dry out!
I used to use a preasure steam cleaner on mine all the time after mud runs. It worked real well never had to use degreaser with that puppy! Your alt and distributor and intake should be fine! I have never once had any issues. Toyota's dis. cap design is a pretty good one for sealing out water. Like i said let it sit for at least 30 min before starting. If by chance you do get stutter after you fire it up, just pop off the dis. cap and dry out. I have done mine prolly a good 50 times or so and never once had any issues.
