I'm new to 4 wheeling, I'm wanting to buy my own truck. I bought my boyfriend a 81 toyota, and went out with him through some little stuff but now I want my own truck so if I break it learning I don't have to worry about having to fix his truck or never hearing how I broke his truck. Also, my dad wants me to go back to school to get my certif for welding, metal fabrication, and learn how to change axles & gears. So any help is better than none, I really want to learn how to fix my own vehicle.

The only advise I have for now is to just keep reading and reading.Pick a subject and use the search tool this will help gather as much info as possible. It should make learning what's going on much easier. If you have any Q's just post them and they will get answered(not always fast but they get answered). ;D

Welcome aboard TOR. It's great that you want your own truck and even better that you want to know how to fix it. My wife just start to learn how to wheel last year and had been helping me out in the garage more and more when she can. It's great to see a few females getting into this sport and not just sitting behind the wheel, but wanting to get under it and get greasy when need too.
How the 81? Stock? Lifted? Got pics? Any ideas on what you're wanting to get? What kind of wheeling do you both do or plan to do?

It's always nice to know my questions will always get answered, I just don' t know where to start learning. I've always loved working on vehicles, and I always like the thought of four wheeling but I guess there was no motivation before hand to actually learn. well thanx for the advice.

I'm want to learn everything and anything possible. The 81 I bought is stock pretty much, just bigger tires, a rear locker and a glass pack on it. yah I have pictures but it's such a pain trying to upload them. Comps kinda slow. It' the only one in town that's stock black with orange doors though

Well I'd say that both of you should start doing some reading and research and as you come up with your questions then ask away. Then we can give you our advise and opinions on them.

If you are considering going back to school for a trade you might want to look into deisel/heavy equipment mechanics. You get to set up gears and do trannys as well as welding, hyrdaulics, electrical(DC), truck steering, suspension and brakes ect. Its also a high demand trade right now so finding work is not hard.

thanx for the caree tip. I'll have to look into that some more. I didn't think there was so much to learn but I was so wrong. Looked a lot easier to work on the vehicle. Any one know where the best trails/camping are in Nor Cal?
