My father has a 1967 fj40 that he bought from a friend a while back. The body work has been done and it has a fresh coat of paint. Other than that it is empty. He wants to make it into a perty mall crawler that he can take out on a nice day(my truck is goin to be the beater ) We plan on doing a spring over, ubolt flip, disks all the way around, chevy350, have original seats redone, and put a roll cage in it. We are currently in the planning/parts gathering stage. Right now I am 1500 miles away from it so no pics at this time, but I will try to get some next time I go home. We will hopefully start the build in 6-7 months, and at that time I will try to resurect this tread and post progress pics as often as I can.

Man that sounds great! I have always been really into the old LC's. I am looking forward to seeing your progress. Be sure to keep us updated.
BTW, if you are interested in doing some wright ups on your individual projects, PM me and we'll work something out.
Good luck!

Well, a lot of work has been done of the LC. It is starting to look like something. I have pics on the digital camera but forgot the cable to put them onto my computer, so hopefully this weekend I can get those up.
So far we...
Got the suspension and steering pretty much squared away, but are going to drop a couple leaves out of the packs to lower it a little. For the suspension my dad did a spring over front and rear, and a shackle reversal in the front which moved the front axle forward about 4in.
We installed new poly body mounts, yay.
Got the 350 in, and fuel lines run, but no wiring has been hooked up yet. The stock transmission is being used with the AA adapter. To allow us to use the adapter the transmission was converted to a floor shifter, and the Tcase was switched from vacuum to mechanical linkage to simplify things a little, and we didn't have any of the vacuum stuff.
The front axle has been rebuilt/modified. We replaced the original knuckles with some off of a mini truck front axle. This allowed us to easily bolt the mini truck rotors and calipers up to the front axle to switch it over to disk brakes.
The rear axle has had seals replaced as well. We also have Chevy rotors machined out for it, but are waiting for the caliper brackets before we can get everything bolted on and done.
For the clutch master/slave we are using ones from a 1985 mini truck, cause it was what the parts store had in stock. We don't have a brake MC or booster yet, but will probably be using a non abs MC from a fj80, and a ?? for the booster.
and lots of little things, such as custom brackets for this that and the other thing
Sorry about no pics, SHOULD have pics to go with the words this weekend!

Well camera acted weird and lost most of the buildup pics, but I do have a few pics of it, so, .... This is a pic of when we first got it, spring under, empty, sittin on 31's Here is one of it with the spring over and sitting on 35's Steering, engine, tranny, T-case, seats, and the roll bar in it. Also moved the front axle back about 2-3 inches from the last picture, thought it was a little too far forward, it is still about 4 inches forward of where it was stock. Front, can see the custom radiator box thing my dad made. A pic from the rear The first "driver" It had 4 foot power ;D Hood and part of the front end put back on for a final pic Now if we can figure out the wiring and run the brake lines MAYBE we can drive it before we loose all the sunny days..

YOUR DAD'S LC LOOKS REALLY GOOD! I'VE ALWAYS LIKED THE OLDER LC'S. ONE DAY I WILL GET ONE FOR MY SELF. AS FOR THE BRAKE BOOSTER THAT YOU ARE GOING TO GET THE TOYOTA V6 BOOSTERS HAVE A DUAL DIAPHRAGM WHICH I WOULD SUGGEST. WHAT ROTORS AND CALIPERS DID YOU USE ON THE FRONT AXLE(YEARS). IF YOU WENT WITH MINI TRUCK KNUCKLES LIKE 80-85 YOU COULD HAVE USED 80-83 L/C (VENTED) ROTORS WITH IFS CALIPERS. LET ME KNOW I'M INTERESTED!!.

Thanks for the info on the V6 booster!! i'll be sure to tell him For the front rotors and calipers we just used the 80-85 ones so most of the front end was from the same year. This project is such a miss match of parts that it will be a pain to replece anything if we ever have to, or even worse for someone else if we sell it. Also my dad did not know about the LC rotor and V6 caliper trick when he ordered the parts, but we could still upgrade in the future. ;D

What are the plans for the front? That frame sticking out is very ominous! Like bull horns.

On the front we plan on taking some steel plate and making some brackets to hook in on in front of the frame and steering box to strengthen the front a little, sort of like a cross member type thing. We then are going to either make or buy a bumper and hook it to the plate we put on the front.

We got it fired up for the first time Sunday. First time I have heard a V8 with open headers, they are loud! We still need to get the rest of the wiring done, run brake lines, and put the driveshafts in, but hopefully we can get it at least driveable, if not street legal here some time soon. No new pics cause everything still looks about the same.

Few teaser pics, they are older, but oh well. Right when it was first drivable All cleaned up for a charity car show Nother It has a full cage now... and vinyl half doors. The 4wd cant be used cause of a broken hub (we got it that way) and it is too tall for the joints in the front shaft, so getting that figured out is the next step, probably some iroks or boggers, and maybe regear it, and lockers, but I am back in AZ so I will try to get my dad to take pictures of stuff as it prpgresses and get some current pics next time it is outside of the garage.
