My 1994, 4x4 suddenly started misfiring, Loud is the only way to describe the sound. Top speed 40 mph, stalls. I put new plugs, fuel filter, injector cleaner in fuel and is no better, actually sounds worse if possible. Any suggestions what could be wrong and what else I can do? Thanks.

probably bad timing.cylinders firing late or early would really limit power and revs. later, -Andrew

Check ignition coil; that will cause rough, slow, bucking performance... also, worn distributor cap/rotor can do that, too... (what did the old plugs look like?).. good luck...

I would also try pulling out your distributor and disasembling that and cleaning it up. My friend's Jeep was doing that and the pickups on the distributor were extremely dirty. after that it ran fine. The easiest way to tell if that is the problem is also to put your timing light on your plug wires one at a time and see if you're getting a consistent spark.

If it just started doing it out of the blue, then all arrows would point to exactly what the guys above had said. If it has been going on for awhile and progressvly gotten worse, then you coil my be going bad. Or your Rotor button. My guesses are not based on experience with these trucks, but with jap cars (I am not a rice burn kid, just like to race). I am still looking for my truck.

Do a compression check on your cylinders, you may have jumped time and need to replace your timing chain.

One more thing, you didn't say you replaced your plug wires, so if you didn't, you may have one that is bad.
