I am trying to locate a bolt on class II or III 2" receiver hitch for my 1986 4-Runner. None of the manufacturers list one for a 86, but they do for a 87. I didn't think there was any changes until 1990 in the runners. Does anyone have any info. that may help me.

I know exactly what you are asking ... from what I know: - 86' 4Runners came with a actual bumper (step style) that bolts directly to the frame. I asume that the reason no trailer hitches are made is because they can be used as tow points. - 87'-89' came with a cosmetic rear bumper which bolted to the bottom of the bed. This bumper is not very sturdy and can't be used to tow anything.
What I did is purchased a 87' bumper from a wrecker and then a class III receiver for and 87'. My 86' had all the bolt holes just like an 87' would, they have the same frame and body. Just happens that the bumpers are slightly different. I have some pictures at home that I can email you that will show the differences if you are interested.

My 86 runner has the chrome no step bumper that bolts to the bed with four 8mm bolts. It also has the black plastic end caps. It's just for looks. My runner has leaf springs. Draw-tite lists a #75023 for 87 with a notation (will not work with leaf springs). Do you think it will work on my 86. I don't realy want to change bumpers. Yes please send the pictures. Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!
