I have a 91 pickup 4x4 with a matching fiberglass topper and would like to install some roof racks on the top to put stuff up there. Its a really nice topper so i like it on the truck but cant carry the canoe in the bed anymore. Thanks for the help if anyone has any!

There are several options as far as racks are concerned. I work for Confluence watersports, manufacturer of kayaks and canoes. So I have seen my share of rack systems, anything from homemade pvc racks to custom aluminum. Ranging from $40 to $1200. Your best bet would probably be to go with something like A Thule or Yakima system, which can be bought from most bicycle, camping, or paddle sport store. Both of these systems will require you to drill holes in the top for the mounting points. No, they will not leak if installed per the instructions. Another option is to buy a ladder style rack that mounts to the bed rails under the top. It is all about personal preference. The Thule or Yakima systems are definitly a little less noticably and sleek.

On my 88 4 Runner I have two short lengths of angle iron (steel shaped like an "L") bolted into my fiberglass top. They set back from the cab about 3-4 feet and then I can use about any off the shelf system. The forward mount attaches to the rainrail above the cab and the rear mounts to the angle bars on the shell. It used to carry my surfboards and sea kayak without a problem.
