I never posted about the problem, but I figured I would shre what the problem was in case anyone else had the prob....
The rockers were making a lot of noise, so I decided to adjust them... Pulled out the manual, it said .008 intake, and .012 exhaust for the clearances. I adjusted them to spec, started up the truck and it ran worse, and made more noise than ever. So I decided to go back to my method of adjusting the rockers on my olf Fords.... by feel. Well sure enough, it runs smooth more power, and NO NOISE....
Is my manual wrong, or my feeler guage wrong, or what? Oh well, it's fixed.

I had the same experiance when I changed out my timing chain. Adjusted the clearances like stated above to spec. according to my haynes manual. After everything was put back together there was what I thought to be excessive "tapping". I also took note that before I ever even touched them there was no clearance at all between the rocker and valve stem. I then went to the "feel" method also, some clearance but not what the manual stated. Seems good to me now, but I still don't know why .

last winter I noticed that me timing chain was getting a littlt wore out. I changed the whole timing set. and about three months later I was driving down the highway doing 55 and then all the sudden I felt something let loose. the truck jerked forward and the engine died and the dummy light came on. Once I got the truck home I pulled off the timing cover and the chain had broke in to two pieces the bottom timing gear was in like three pieces the guides were trashed. just not a good situation. I was pissed need less to say. went back to the parts store and had a little talk with the parts man. the chain had a lifetime waranty on it but thats not my point. "unexpected failured come to those who don't expect it."

Not sure if it's the same on the V6's, but of the the little 4bangers are .008 intake, and .012 exhaust for the clearances, but I alway set my exhaust at .010 though.
