Anyone with the 6 & high miles-what problems have you encountered ? What would/did you do to avoid/correct the problem ? How many miles currently? The 22RE seems to be well documented, not much comparitively on the 3vze 6 though. We all know about the head gaskets so lets skip that one.

I'm running the 3-VZE with the 4 speed auto in a '92 4Runner, just turned 290000 km (roughly 174000 miles) this past weekend (mostly highway) and haven't really had many problems other than the headgaskets... Problems I've experienced: Oil consumption (no smoke, just oil disappearing), I would go to a heavier oil, but I don't want to risk going too thick with winter coming on. Radiator... the rad on this rig sucks... there's no other way to put it, I got it patched this summer and am going to get it replaced as soon as possible... once I start working some overtime and have some "spare" cash. Beyond the mediocre performance, there's really nothing wrong with this motor, and the only real remedy for that would be a rebuild along with some better breathing (in and out). As far as reliability goes, all I should have to say is the obvious... it's a Toyota

I have 250,000 km on mine and it leaks and blows oil. I've had the timing belt idler pulley spin it's bearing so I replaced it and the timing belt but besides that it has been trouble free. It leaks from most of the seals it seems and I plan to swap it sooner then later.

Yeah mine has about 160k miles. But I rebuilt it at about 117K after blowing it in the mud. Since then I had to replace the fan pulley bracket, lower idler bearing, top idler bearing, timing belt, steering pump, alternator, and starter. Basically mud has eaten everything up at one time or the other so I have had to go through it all.
I stay out of the mud mostly now.... ;D
