HI there,
I have an 86 pickup that has developed one hell of a howl in the front end when I have the hubs locked.
In 2wd unlocked the truck is fine, but with the hubs locked there is an intermittent noise primarily on the right hand side. In 4wd I can control it by stepping on the gas when the noise starts and it will stop, if I let the truck coast the noise starts again.
Also when I hit a bump the noise might start or stop. Steering also seems to cause it to start.
The first thing I can think of that may be causing this is the CV-joints (noise also changes from side to side).
If anyone else has experienced a similar noise, or has any ideas as to what this could be I would really appreciate it.

I would check to transmission fluid in your transfer case first

I replaced the front diff and transfer fluid as soon as noise began.
