Me and my dad just changed my clutch out last weekend on our 87 4-runner. When me and my dad put it back together the clutch wouldn't engage. It will not go into gear and if we start it while it is in gear it jumps foward so we know the clutch isn't engaging. We figured they slave cylinder might be bad so we changed it today and we still have the same problem. The only thing we can think of is the cylinder might not be bleed right or the pilot bearing is bad, we didn't change it(couldn't get it out). If anybody has any ideas please let us know, thanks Stephen

Actually your clutch is'nt disengageing. I would start by checking the slave cylinder for proper movment. See if it is engageing the clutch fork to disengage the clutch. I doubt the problem will be there though, as you should'nt have had to open the hydraulic system to change the clutch. My second guess would be that the clutch was not centered properly and is pinched between the flywheel and pressure plate. If you find the slave cylinder to be working properly, expect to have to tear into it to figure it out.

I agree with what Sean wrote if you have a problem in the hydraulic/mechanical aspect of your clutch. Personally i would not worry a lot about the pilot bearing being bad. I don't think it would give you this kind of problem. However one thing i have come across before is the actual clutch pedal bracket being broken. Take a flashlight and look under the dash at the clutch pedal mounting and make sure everything is straight and in good shape. If the bracket is broken or bent, components will not align properly and can give you trouble. It may sound far fetched, but i have seen it before.

Thanks guys, I'll check it today and see if I can figure anything out. I'm hoping we don't have to pull it out again so we'll see. I'll let y'all know what I find out. Stephen
