91 ext cab 4cl - 4x4 5sp 110k Trans is making more noise than a mariachi band in a 50 gal drum, every gear but 4 is shot. I can get a trans from an 85' for $150 with 160k on the clock My questions - will it match - seller says yes. Is it worth it - to buy it, and to install it. or is 160k too much to risk without rebuilding. Have any of you guys rebuilt a 5sp? How dificult is it, compared to rebuilding a motor. How much do the pieces cost Anyone here ever have theirs professionally rebuilt? If so - how much did it cost? Too freakin cold to doo much now, but I need to figure out what Im going to do before it warms up. Thanks Berd

I personally wouldn't rebuild a tranny that is shot and making noise that bad. It wouldn't be worth it in my opinion. $150 isn't bad for a tranny with that many miles. Did he say it worked good before he took it out? It does seem high mileage. I would keep looking around and see if something better turns up. Check ebay and pirate and see if someone there might have a better one.

;D Your trans. is wasted! Wayyy to much $$ when there are options. As far as bolting up & working, the manual trans. guys will have to cover that. 160k is nothing for a properly maintained Toy. trans. Is the unit clean? How does the fluid look? If it's in good shape, $150 sounds like a good deal. As for rebuilding or having one built, you can get into big $$$ & big problems either way. Just like a used unit. Hey, it's only time & money right? ;D Later...
